Oil light problem
Last weekend I took my DA and my buddy took his Evo 8 up to the passes around mt. rainer in seattle. Well before I left I checked my oil level and it was just a hair above the full dot. Once we got into the passes I started to leave the evo behind, so I guess you can say I was really pushing my car, but anyways the oil light came on. I am am almost positive that it is from the oil shifting around in the pan, because I pulled into one of the scenic overlooks and checked again and it was just fine. I have looked around on the net for a racing pan with baffles to keep the oil by the pump feed. The only ones I have found say they are all for vtechs or type-r's. Will these work on my tranny? It is the stock cable tranny and my car is a '91 rs.
It also may be possible that too much oil was up in the head and not draining down fast enough for the turns (inertia) and higher RPMs pumping oil up faster, of course I do not know how you were driving exactly and this is only part of the problem and you are looking for another angle to fix this with a windage tray.
Put it this way, my friend in his evo was saying that he kept pushing out of the turns, that is why he couldnt keep up. I think I was driving it really hard. These were back to back turns for several miles.
So how could I fix the problem of the oil not draining fast enough out of the head. I still think it was the oil in the pan, because once at the top I stop at this little gas station/general store and buy a quart of oil and added about half of it and the light never came back on when coming back down the mountain. I guess I should have added that in the begining.
So does anyone know where to get an aftermarket oil pan for the stock tranny that come in the '91rs tegs that has baffles or will the ones listed above work?
