OBD2-OBD1 Conversion...TACH doesnt work
whats up....doin the obd2b-obd1 conversion on my 01 Integ LS...swapped in a 98 B20B motor...reason for the the conversion is to get rid of the CEL light due to the oil sensor pump not connected....
Anyway...two things I noticed after doing the conversion...
1. My tach doesnt work at all...speedometer works...but no tach signal at all.
2. When I start the car...it sounds like its dying...trying to stay on...does this till it warms up and its fine
Any help to solve these problems would be appreciated...i solved my CEL light problem...now these...

Ebay conversion harnesses fall apart. I don't know how many times I have had to sell tuning customers one of our harnesses b/c theres had loose pins. You get what you pay for in the automotive industry.
Concerning the original post. It sounds like your issue is in your conversion harness.

Whats the point then ?
Your spending $50 on a total pos vs $25-30 more on a nice unit.

The money you would spend to modify the harness you have now could be easily spent purchasing a quality harness without having to shell out anymore cash in the future.

i actually had the same problems too. its not your harness! i had a buddy that had the same problems and went thru 4 different harnesses like skunk2 and phearables one. i solved the problem for the both of us with the tach...
the OBD2b ECUs send the tach the signal, not the distributor like OBD2a and OBD1. the engine's harness is missing the tach wire from the distributor to the shock tower. run the one wire at the distributor that has no connection on the engine harness side to the blue wire at the driver's shock tower.
and as far as the bouncy idle, im in the process of solving that problem too which is how i came across this thread on the search engine, it might have to do with how OBD2 throttle bodies dont have a FITV (located underneath the OBD1 throttle bodies that work with the IACV to maintain idle on OBD1 ECUs) since OBD2 throttle bodies dont have FITV and the obd2 ECU only uses the IACV to maintain idle, an OBD1 conversion might cause the problem with the idle because there is no FITV on a OBD2 throttle body. i will let you know if i solve that problem

thanks for the reply....i ended up gettin a phearable conversion harness...and everything works fine...only thing is the jumpy idle at startup...thats my only problem now...i think its just cuz it doesnt have the FITV...thats the only thing i can think of...please do fill me in though if you solved that problem...

its not the FITV because when obd1 motors replace the intake manifold, the aftermarket manifold doesnt have FITV and there arent any idle problems. i will let you know if i can figure it out

Im having the same problem. '00 GSR. OBD2b to OBD1 adapter harness with OBD1 P72. Tach doesnt work but does work when stock ecu is plugged in. Adapter harness is a good unit from Xenocron. The adapter harness has A19 (engine pulse) spliced with B13 (ignition control module) on the engine harness plug. I think this splice is supposed to support the tach signal.
Can anyone confirm this? Or is the adapter harness not designed to address the tach problem at all?
