Default Noob question - engine type?

I recently aquired a 2000 Integra with a salvage title. I am unsure if the mechanic who sold it to me kept it stock. How can I tell what type of engine is in there?

Also, I plan on swapping out in the near future, would the "B" engines be the best way to go?

Thanks for reading.

There should be a little stamp on the block near where the transmission meets the motor. it'll be about 1"x1" just left of the exhaust manifold and just right of the green VIN tag(if that is still there). It should say B18something. And yes, a Bseries would be the easiest and cheapest to swap in.

If you have a 2000 teg then you already have a "B series" engine. Most likely you have a B18b which comes stock in the LS RS GS models. The GSR model has the B18C1. Most noticable difference is the GSR model has Vtec, and the previously stated models don't.

Fellaz take it easy. Everybodys got to learn sometime or another. There was a point in time when none of us knew anything about our beloved honda. He's just a little further back in knowledge than most newbies but he'll learn. Just be happy he likes hondas and not those annoying *** domestic wannabe imports or riced out hondas.

By looking at his screen name im thinking that maybe...just maybe...he might not even be in the right state of mind to even be aware of what a engine is...

Thanks for all the useful comments and suggestions.

As for the swapping before I know what I have, I ask, only because I can get a B18C5 for under $3000.

Well why waste 3k if you have a perfectly good b18b1 or b18c1 and can just throw your money into it and have much more productive numbers...If it's a 2k it probably doesn't have that many miles either.

if you have a b18b now, put the $3000 towards boost. you will be a lot happier than with a"hype r motor y0" as well as end up with a lot more power

What the ***** is "MattyP" sounds like a fruit cake if you ask me.

He asked a question, if you can give him what he wants then go kick a rock.

Thanks everyone. I discovered it is a B18B1 with about 71XXX miles on it. So I may just keep it.

I am curious about the drawbacks of bolting on a turbo, so I will definately be checking the boards.

As for all you haters, all your BS means is that you won't get to try some of the bombest home grown this side of the Canadian border!

all integras come with b series motors. RS//LS/GS come NON-VTEC , GSR AND TYPE-R come with VTEC motors.sometimes just seeing the valve cover might help or looking at the engine code on the block
