My engine bogs... can you tell me why?
I re-built a B18a1 i had laying around with the following parts:
Hone job
B16 pistons with OEM piston rings
ACL bearings
B16 oil pump, and oil pan
Used all new OEM gaskets (except throttle body gasket, havent put it on yet)
Fresh valve adjustment, and timing check, both perfect
new OEM plug wires, and NGK plugs
odb2 LS distributor re-wired to ODB1.
unknown injectors
I am running the motor with a ODB1 DX ECU, throwing a CEL for the o2 sensor (only have a 1 wire o2), used to run it with a CX ECU, and it was way worse, and died at idle.
Now...It runs ok.... but heres the problem
At low RPM (1000-2500) the engine runs fine, lightly stepping on the gas.
From about 2500-4000 the engine BOGS and wont move as fast as it would gradually stepping on the gas. You can hear what sounds like the throttle body giving a slight whistle while sucking in air. The engine sounds like its getting too much air, and not enough fuel, but i checked the plugs and they are black (which means its running rich)
Then, at about 4000+ the engine kicks back into running correctly and TAKES OFF.
I checked the cap and rotor, and they look fine. I havent checked to make sure all the wires in the distributor are all properly connnected... maybe i should
What i've tried to do to fix this:
Advance/retard the timing
Check the plugs (they are black... which means im burning rich)
New OEM plug wires
Changed the MAP sensor
nothing changed
I tried to fix my CEL by changing the engine harness to a EX to accept the 4 wire o2. Now, i thought just not hooking up the VTEC selnoid plugs would make it act as a DX harness.... but after hooking it up, the car would not start. so i switched back to the CX harness i have been using, and it started right up.
The only things i can come up with are:
Shitty TPS or throttle body its-self
Need to put on that throttle body gasket
Need to fix that CEL with the correct DX harness
Get a propper LS ecu
Get a propper LS distributor
need different injectors
HELP
