Normaly when the oil light comes on the damage has been done, Bearings would of got thousands of miles worth of wear. And damage to the oil pump.

Keep putting oil in intill the dipstick shows it at the full mark. A little over is alright because it will normaly just blow it out.

If I was you id pull the oil pan off and check the oil pickup aswell as replace the oil pump, then hope that thats all that was the probem and you might just be lucky enough.

You just put in fresh oil so the oil level is out of the question. Few things you might want to check. Check and make sure the connection to the oil pressure sensor, and make sure there isn't an intermittent connection. It often rust out if the boot is ripped or torn. If nothing is wrong there make sure there are no obstructions in the oil filter. tap into the oil pressure sensor and verify oil pressure at all rpms. If you find nothing you might want to replace the oil pressure sensor. If the pressure is lower you may want to consider replacing the oil pump. It may just be the relief valve spring has gotten weak and opens prematurely.
