Default A mass murder scene, with a twist of lazy

I need to pull out my Type-R engine.
Again.
I'm upgrading to a 2.0 stroker kit this time, but the last time I pulled it out for mods I ended up with a can full of damaged parts - not pretty.
Anyone know a good source for pulling engines, so I can avoid this again?
I just want a basic step-by-step checklist. That, and a video camera should do me in. Thanks for any help you can give.

A good source for pulling engines? What do you mean 'source'? Pull it yourself. Search and I'm sure you'll find what you need. And what do you need a video camera for?

*edit - BTW, where's the murder?

Sounds like a nice NEW setup.

But why are you yanking it...blown up??

Oh 'Hatch_R' I believe the "murder scene" he's talking about is the reason why he's most-likely yanking it out.

Shredded something internally...

No cherry picker here, 2 jack stands an a jack. Motor comes out under the car, and goes back under the car. There was a link on how to rip an put back motors.

Yeah, I have never done it that way. I went out and bought a cherry picker for 120.00 with warranty.

Pull axles. Disconnect wire harness from shock mounts. Remove motor mounts. Tilt tranny side down at about 45 degree angle and pull engine.
Takes about 3 hours to remove.

Of course be sure to drain all fluids and remove a couple ground straps and coolant hoses.

Take less time in pulling motors and more time in grammar and spelling

haha nice.... I used rachet straps on my cherry picker to remove my jeep motor and it worked so well im gonna do it on the teg too this spring... and yes it works good, I had an i6, tranny and trasfer case coming out, it's nice having the ability to adjust while the motor's coming out

That sounds like a good idea, you mean to hold it at an angle right? Homemade engine leveler..i'll have to try that.

ummm..hmmm if you are asking how do this...i would advise having someone with you that knows what they are doing....

Basically...

disconnect the wire harness from the chassy
disconnect the battery and all grounds
disconnect heater hoses, rad hoses
unbolt lower mounts
drain all fluids
take axles out
disconnect shift linkage
take off small stuff, like intake piping to work around the motor easily if ya want
umm less see...
disconnect fuel lines
disconnect vacuum lines from the manifold(brake booster)
unbolt rear tranny mount

Now you can either use a picker! or go thru the bottom...easier with two jacks...but u can get by with one and a couple of jack stands...also its easier if you have a board with wheels on it to set the motor on...basically you lower the car all the way down onto the board or ground....then unbolt the mounts..then lift the car as high as you can until u can get the motor out

wallah!

i prolli forgot to mention other small stuff...but you get the idea...just take your time and use common sense!

Beeeautiful.
That's all I needed, just a basic checklist. I've got a cherry and enough tools to make Tim Allen jealous, so I'm straight from here.

We use ratchet straps all the time at our shop. Forget trying to find a good place to bolt on a chain, just run a couple straps around, tighten, and go to town. We pull everything that way, Jeep 4.0's, hemi's and 360's.

FYI: For anyone who might try this, do yourself this favor: Make sure the straps you use will be strong enough before you attempt this manuever.

This may sound a little a-hole-ish, but you're installing a 2 liter stroker kit and you need directions for pulling your motor?

Get a Helm's. It will walk you step by step. Maybe that way you can avoid a "Can of Broken Parts".

Well i'm not a novice... but i tend to get impatient, bored, drunk, lazy, or irritated so i usually end up replacing a bunch of parts i rip out, sort of like the timing belt the last time. PS - Gates. awesome. get one.
