Default ls/vtech conversion

I cant seem to find any info while searching for ls/vtec or ls/gsr head. I was wondering what the proper search title to get info on this topic is. Also, I did read a few articles that said that it would be better to just turbo your LS instead of doing a conversion. My ? is that my GS already have 100k miles on it. Should I bother with the turbo or purchase a GSR motor and start from scratch. Preesh...

if you have that money. I would build the bottom end. Then get a turbo or a vtec head. You will thank yourself

"VTECH"
OH ohhhhhh..Here we go agian.....

I was going through the same phrase as you and I decided to sell what I had for my vtec conversion and went turbo. That's one of the best decision I've made concerning my car.

you should just go turbo, vtec helps tho spoolin up the turbo and there is a diffrence with the vtec, not much but noticable.

So dont even bother droping a GSR engine into my teg? I was just worried about the 100k on my LS motor being able to handle the drag kit I plan on adding to it.

Do a compression test on your LS motor. If the numbers are good then you can def. boost it. But it would be better if you take out the block and build it. It will save you the trouble later on in time and it's a lot safer.

Vtec, happy now Mattyg2? Most of the articles Ive read lean towards going all motor in a ls/VTEC. not turbo. if I decide to keep my engine ill probably go ls/VTEC turbo. The ? that i really need answered is if its worth taking an LS motor with 100lk miles on it, converting it and adding a turbo or just buy a low milage GSR motor and build it up from there....Any real response is appreciated.. If you wanna flame on my spelling or grammer then dont bother.

It's good that you did some research. Like I told you, if your motor still have nice compression numbers, then boost will not be a problem if you tune it right. If I were you, I wouldn't spend money on a vtec head. I'd rather save up a lil more and build the ls block so you can boost more. There are people making 300whp with ls engine unbuilt. And there are people with fully built ls engine making 400+whp...It's all depending on your goal and what you feel safe with. But if I have the money, I'd be building my ls block right now.

What would need to be done to completely build an LS motor, on the bottom end? I have the same dilema. I have a LS and wanted vtec, but it looks like turbo is the better option.

That really depending on your goal. Such as whp goal, money want to spend, what kind of racing do you do. ect....Most people start with the block when going with turbo for reliability. Just do more research on built blocks and try to learn as much as you can before getting into it. It's not as easy as it sounds. Takes alot of research and money.

I knew it would be expensive and time consuming. I really couldn't locate anything as far as building the bottom end of a ls motor.

Now, as far as doing the ls/vtec swap. Would this be everything to complete the swap?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...33617

Or would more still be needed? How much do you think something like this could be pieced together for? Sorry for all the noob ?'s.

Also, what motor do I have in my ls? Is it the b18b?

that head is teh bling bling

that $1800 head might be good for 30 extra hp over your stock ls, if you do the lsvtec, but you're going to need more than just a new head.

to start off, you need to run a new oil line, and new headstuds would be a good idea....

but if you're even considering spending 1800 on a new head, i'd call that a huge waste of money

for only 1200 more you can VERY reliably turbo that bitch.....
while bottom end upgrades are great to have with a turbo b18b, they're "unnecessary" (meaning you can still have reliability) if you keep the boost below 8 or 9 psi (of course superb fuel management is always a must)....you can always swap new pistons/rods in or get your block sleeved later on down the road, when you want to hit 11s at 25psi or whatever you may want to do

it all depends on your long term goals, and how much $ you're willing to spend

Long term goals are to be pushing close to 300whp. I know turbo is really going to be the cheapest and easiest way to do this. I just wanted the head swap as a quick 30hp. Nothing more. I want to turbo it right. Now, I don't know what that way is yet. But, hopefully I'll figure it out.

I mean if I go turbo I'm at around 200hp. Sound about right? Then add a turbo kit boosting 15psi, 300whp. Or close to it. I figure for now I wouldn't have to worry about building the bottom end for the vtec.
