Default LS/VTEC quick question

Yeah, I know it prolly sounds stupid and my grammar prolly sucks but whatever. I used the search, but its kind of hard since "ls" doesn't come up in it, and I already checked the FAQ. I just had a quick question for a friend (whiteyinteg) since he can't post yet. My friend has an ls-vtec swap in his 1991 DA with a b18a1 block with a b16a head, and wants to run stock ls ecu and stock ls cable transmission. He wants to know that if he built up the head without wiring vtec, if he could feel or get any more power out of it. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Of course your going to make more power if you put money into the head and put better valve train, p&p, valve job etc.

But....

Why not just use vtec?

I don't know hes a weird guy. He doesn't see the difference in a b16 ecu and a b18 ecu and doesn't want to bother with the work if he doesn't have to. Sh*t if i know.

--- well i think 91 is obd0, and he is either going to need a PM7 obd0 w/vtec. If it is obd1 just use a p28 or a 95 and down GSR ECU.

If he uses a ecu that allows his car to engage into vtec, and actually use the LS.V build to some of it's potential. He will make a considerable amount of power to how it is now. It is honestly kinda stupid to run a Ls.V build and not use what the head is made to do.

The guy better off just throwing a LS head back on and building that, he'll get more power out of it than building a B16 head and not using Vtec. Vtec was designed for fuel economy so just use the lower cam will not produce power result like a LS built. And since the guy is such a noob let him know tuning is a must, LS vtec or just LS, he'll need tuning if he plans to build any of the heads.

well what i dont get is some of the rude people here.i mean if the guy knew everything he wouldnt need to be here right? Dont attack me im just here to learn and have fun, but with that said i have a 93 ls . i have had from frankenstein setup (b20 block and the b16 vtec head) to the just ls block and head with turbo setup in mine.after those i have decided to have it all put back to stock Ls with bolt ons as it sits.tell your friend to plan for what he wants. if hes not fully ready to take the steps hold off.I am new here as can be seen. i understand im not to "sell" things here, but my access is limited. but just know that i have a brand new set of B series forged J E pistons 8:1 compression with rings and bearings and Eagle H-beam rods that i never did install while i have the turbo setup. SSSOOOOO keep my info if you think your bud really wants to go turbo. and it is practically useless to have that head if hes not runnning the vtec.like the other dude said it serves a purpose. its taken much trial and error along the way for me to get to where im at.after all most of us are not mechanics and are learing. and im dr phil.
