Default LS/VTEC?

right now my teg is completely stock except for my new tires because i need to pay off my debt before i can start making mods, one of the mods i'd like to do tho is making it an LS/Vtec to add a little more power, i'm just wondering what preps to the engine i will need to do before i do this, what i actually NEED to be able to do this, and how much i should expect it to cost me. thanks a lot

I always ask this question and rarely get answers.... this is what I know so far... people will tell you anywhere from $2K to $8K+ for the job done right...I am not sure....I always get a different figure.... I've heard the labor is not that much.

So far...I have accumulated at least these items on a list:

DOHC vtec head: B18c most HP, B16a best flow and price, B17 if you can't get either

All internals for head (valvetrain, cams,springs,rockers...etc....)

Vtec valve cover or aftermarket version

Distributor: I've heard the LS distrib will work minus a leg to activate vtec, but
don't know how reliable that is

ECU for vtec engagement and management

Steel braided oil line from block to head

Ls head gasket
GSR head bolts
GSR or Si oil pump (recommended)

GSR, Si or Type R pistons will give you more torque, but are not necessary. .

That's most of what I know for now...hope it helps...

to take high revs i'd recommend connecting rods and either gsr,si,itr pistons.and upgrade the valvetrain while u are at it. i believe you will need a gsr or si timing belt and maybe water pump

Also you can check out importreview.com . They have quite a few ls/vtec dyno plots so you can see what kind of power increase your looking at.

It doesn't matter what water pump you use, but you must use the corresponding time belt. ie b18c water pump-use b18c timing belt. Costs don't start going into the stratusphere unless you're going FI with the thing, but built FI block are expensive anyhow. Get the gsr block girdle. It will go a long way in peace of mind. LEO95se is selling his. I've bought plenny of stuff from him. Very cool guy. If you want to get the most out of this setup. I highly recommend 20 over high compression pistons.

I'm dropping mine in this weekend. Email me is ya got any Qs and good luck!
