Loud Tick
the title says it all, my car a 1990 Integra is making a loud ticking noise at low to mid range RPM's i've looked at all the valves checked clearances and everything... it is definetly in the head, the timing belt is pretty loose. I was thinking it may be out of time or something any help out be greatly appreciated...
bring it to a gas station and get it tuned up, **** acura, they overprice and do shitty work (they forgot to put coolant back in my car - ******* dumb asses)
My friend had the same problem with a 94 GSR, it was indeed a valve problem - i don't know exacly what, but you will probably find the problem somewhere in the head...
Goodluck

you dont understand i just cant afford to have someone do it for me. It owuld be best if I didnt it myself... I just need someone to diagnose the problem... what does an oil pump do when it is about to go out... or do they even go out
its your valves, which need an adjustment. Go to http://www.team-integra.net and look through the "articles" section. Its a goldmine, and you can do any kind of maintanence yourself. Good luck.

Ill describe a little more...
I was driving to work Sunday morning when I pulled in and got out I noticed my car ticking loudly as I left the car running to run inside my work to get my check... when I came back out I noticed the car still doing it... I didnt know what to think so I drove it on home.
I then today after letting the car set all weekend went out and checked clearences on the the cylinder closest to the driver side moved it to TDC adn checked the valves tehy were within clearence... so ignored the rest shouldnt have though (ill check the rest) after checking these I moved on and put everything back together... minus the side cover for the timing belt... i went on and started to car and noticed the belt was jumping and it was also loose... so i read in my service manual on how to tighten the belt a little bit and did so... nothing changed... that's about as detailed as I can get right now. im at my friends house using his computer to post this and have to drive home... scared as ****

So your car was running with a loose timing belt? That could be your problem, bent valves are also coming into the picture.... Any mishifts?
Listen to the injectors, is that the origination of the ticking? Is there a rock or something in your distro cap? Listen from under the car, could be a rod knocking,
Im just throwing you ideas. I gotta go now. Have fun.

it doenst sounds like a rod though.... it's up top.... ill check the dizzy for that rock, lol... thanks man that article didnt help much becuase it was done a VTEC engine and I also own a Service Manual for my car... thanks os much though... hwo do i adjust the loose Timing belt... Ive tried it didnt work though
Allow me to give you some oldschool diagnostic advise...
Start the engine, and open the hood... Use a flat-head screw driver (as big as they get) and hold the flat head against the valve cover around there some valves are, place you ear on the end of the handle of the screwdriver, and you can hear vibrations... if the clicking is coming from in the head you will hear it this way...

Check all the valve lashes. Checking only one will do NO GOOD! Tighten the Tbelt by removeing the slack between the cams and putting a pry bar under the pulley and tightening it up. Its easy!! message me for anything else
Yes Acura is overpriced for their maintenances, so try this. Drive in to your local honda dealer which has cheaper flat rate and get the work done there. The part numbers are all the same and are easy to cross reference.

he said he has no money to fix...
Replace the belts, make sure the tensioner is set properly, adjust the timing, and see if it continues... if so then you probably have something damaged in the head... but the loose timing belt is NOT good... Timing is probably very fucked up!

it could also be a rod bearing. if so, your f'kd.
do this: start the car and pop the hood. checking one by one pull a spark plug wire out . pull one out and the car should be idling like **** now, give it throttle, if the noise goes away it's time to throw your motor away.

if it is a rod bearing... Your car would be making a pretty bad noise. a quick way to check if youve fried your bearings is to change your oil and then take a look at your oil in the light. If it has sparkles in it or you can actually see chunks of metal then youve got a pretty big problem. To tell you the truth though. If youve got some knowledge with engines, replacing your rod bearings wouldnt be that expensive. what makes things expensive though is having to spin your crank if you messed that up and sometimes having to buy new rods. Keep us updated on the problem. My rod bearing fried in my teg and it sounded like the noise was coming from the head as well. good luck man
