Default Please help... Engine problem

Hey guys, I have a question. I have no idea what this problem can be anymore. About a week and a half ago, I went to Nopi in VA and dragged my car. I did allright, and the car ran fine. Three days later, I went on a spirited ride down one of our backroads just to show off how well our cars handle. That night, when i was driving home, I noticed the engine was making a ticking sound. The next day i took it out to see if i could hear it and wow did i hear it. Every time i get on the throttle it makes a ticking sound that sounds like it is coming from the center of the head if not the intake manifold. At first i did a search on here and everyone said it might be that the valves need to be readjusted. So i readjusted the valves to .006 on the intake side, and .007 on the exhaust side. Well when we started the car after we adjusted the valves, it still made the sound. I went to acura and they said that the timing belt might be loose, and then pulling on the camshaft an odd way. So i checked my timing and my timing belt. Both dead on. So now i am at a dead end and am not sure what the problem is. Anyone ever had a similiar problem or know what else i might check out? I am about to just take it to acura and give them a wad of cash and say fix it. But if im gonna be without my R for a while. i might as well go ahead and save that money and put it into replacing the parts that have gone bad with upgraded versions. Any help that you guys can give me will be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks.

I thought a leak down test will test the valves and a compression test will test the bottom end. Is this correct?

well first off i'm sorry to hear about this, any time you hear a ticking noise that gets louder with throttle, it's not a good thing, i'm sorry to say that, but expect the worse, well i definitly recommend doing a couple of things before taking this to acura if you have the resources, first do a leak down to check for any bent valves, while you're doing a leak down, if you are not holding pressure, then open your radiator cap and take off your intake, listen at the throttle body and the exhaust, if you hear air coming out then you have a bent valve, if your coolant is poppin bubbles from the radiator cap, then you have a blown head gasket, which i doubt, since you're hearing ticking, anywho do that to all cylinders, next go to a sears and get stethascopes for automobiles, it's fairly cheap, like 10 bucks, and start your car, place that stethascope all around the head and the block to check where the noise is the most loudest, if it's in the head it's most likely a valve, if in the block area, it's most likely a rod, i've seen this several times, all i can say is good luck man, i've been there and i know it sucks, hang in there and push foward, peace. email me if you have more questions, i have a lot of mechanic friends that know more than me and can give me input about this.

The same thing happened to my friends GSR swap'd EG.

Started hearing a subtle ticking.. adjusted valves etc.. etc.

We went for a drive one day, and he toasted a rod bearing.

Although.. I'm no motor guru by anymeans.

Ok so i took it by a local tuner shop, and the guy took a look at it and told me that i should assume the worst. He put a screwdriver up to it, and listened to the drivetrain, and says that the noise sounds like its resonating from either piston 2 or 3 in the bottom end. He told me that the noise is common to cars that have spun rod bearings or that are at least about to spin bearings. He told me that I should pull the oil pan down and try and get a look at the bearings through the bottom of the car. Also he told me to look at the crank to see if it has marks on it from a spun bearing. If I have scratched it up, does anyone have any idea where i can get a new crank? Is the ITR crank the same as a gsr crank or is it different? Are there performance crankshafts out there at all? Also, does anyone know how much will a new crank be? Im not that knowledgable about engines, but im trying to learn. Again thanks for the help in advance.

well its simple... its eighter your valves are out of wack and simply need to be adjusted.... or you bent a valve(s) so first adjust them... if they stop ticking then your fine...

if they are still ticking afterward then my friend its time for new valves

or it could be a rod bearing..... but i highly doubt its that.

you can find nice GSR cranks on this board for around 200, and ITR cranks are usually around 350. the GSR will work in your motor and from what i am told is lighter and quite possibly make more power.
