KYB users.....quick question!
I installed my new KYB AGX's this weekend with Comptech Sport springs. I absolutely love the new ride, but I have a question.
The KYB's came with small steel collars that the instructions said to install on the piston between the bumpstop washer and the inside of the dust boot. I tried to put the collars on the first one I did up front, but when I did the spring wasn't touching the top cover when I tightened it all up...so I took the collar back out and used only the parts that came off the stock assembly. I didn't use them on the rears either. Everything seems fine to me, but I want to make sure so I don't ruin my new setup.
Has anyone had experience with this issue? I searched for an answer in the archives...but didn't find anything.
Any help is extremely appreciated....
Peace...

The small steel collars are bumpstop stops. You NEED to have these on the strut piston!
I am not sure why the top hat of the shock was not touching the spring. I know when I put the Eibach Pro-kits and AGXs on my Teg, the stop hat was over the spring. I had to push it down more than with the shock springs, but that is b/c I used lowering springs.
But now that I re-read your post, it looks like you might have used the stock bumpstop stop instead of the KYB one. Is this assumption correct?

Thanks Breaka..
All of the parts that came off of my stock assemblies went on the new setup. The stock parts didn't have a bumpstop stop collar. The rubber bumpstop and washer were the only parts located inside of the dustcover. KYB's diagram said to put their collar (it's about 1/2" thick) in between the bumpstop washer and the dustcover. I take it you put all of your collars on?

The "bumpstop stop" that I was referring to is #13 in the picture below.

This (#13) piece should be replaced with the KYB collar.
KYB's instructions may have confused you with #13 and #8. #8 is the dust cover washer/plate.
HTH.

Great Graphic Breaka!
The collar that was sent with the KYB's goes in between the Bumpstop Stop (#13) and the inside of the dustcover (#10). If I take #13 out, the collar that KYB sent will fall right into the bumpstop! (The collar I am referring to resembles a 1/2" thick male wedding ring) On KYB's instruction insert, they said that the collar needs to go on top of #13...but like I said, the extra height made it to where the top (#7) was too high and wouldn't tighten properly. (the spring was able to be moved around)...
I hope this helps....thanks for all of the help so far!

I just installed my AGX's not too long ago as well as my a set on my friend's Civic. Basically, make sure there are no collars in direct contact...(i.e.: metal to metal contact). This will make tapping noises every time you go over a bump.
And make sure you have at least one collar at the top of the strut assembly, otherwise the shaft will go right up...and if you're unlucky, it's your front...and they'll pop up and dent your hood.
If you used your stock collar, it should be fine.

i have those collars sitting right next to me, and my car rides great, with my AGX pro kit setup. I must have put the stockers back on or something, it was a while ago.

Yeah...my handling is awesome as well! I just didn't see how those small collars were going to work without the bumpstop washer. I was positive that as soon as the bumpstop came up, that small collar would go inside the rubber bumpstop! My shocks don't make any noises and as far as I can tell, they are working perfectly!
--Skun2Teg-->I have mine currently set to 1 all around. I'm still experimenting with them though. I tried them all on 4 two nights ago....and I'm sure I lost some tooth fillings going through town!! I'm going to try 2 in the front and 3 in the back tonight and see what happens. It seems that you'd wnat more stiffness in the back so that the rear end doesn't come out on you in hard turns. BUT....I'm just guessing!
Anybody have any suggestions on F/R settings for the KYB AGX's?
Thanks

I run 2F/1R just for putting around town. If I want to really do some hard driving, I switch cars and grab my Civic.
450F/400R springs with Koni Yellows set all around to full hard. Talk about losing tooth fillings!
I tried mine yesterday with 2F/1R..and it works pretty good. I'll keep experimenting to see what I like best.
G_S_R.....what type of springs do you have? What's the drop?
