Default kill switch problem

from what i understand the ecu is supposed to learn the way u drive or something?? so i'm thinking that whenever i take out my kill switch and put it back in, i'm resetting my ecu cuz all the presets on the radio station change and the clock goes back to 12:00. is that bad since the ecu doesnt get a chance to learn my driving

I think your ECU learned that you can't drive and it hates you now, so thats why it did that.

well if you're not able to understand, the ecu gathers info from many sensors and it compiles the info together to come up with the lowest emissions and the best mileage. and this information is gathered as it adapts to the driving conditions which the driver places it into. therefore that's how it learns how u drive.

dont worry about it... for one reason or another people disconnect their negative battery terminal which resets the ecu all the time. Just make sure to let the car sit and idle for a few minutes before you go drive it.

obd1 ecu's should be left alone for 15 minutes with NO touching of the throttle after being re-installed.

what kind of "kill switch" do you have that you take out and put back in every time?

I think its his way of securing his vehicle? You take out the fuse at night? Is that what you do? My friend does this all the time.

You shouldn't have wired the kill switch up the way you did. It looks like you are cutting the power to the whole car. Do something simpler like cut the fuel pump power.

hondas do not have this problem where resetting the ecu will 'forget' everything it has 'learned'

i know that mitsubishi's have this as a common problem. when resetting the ecu will make the car run horribly for a good few minutes until the ecu can re-learn all the settings and adjust to run the car normally again.

this is done im told because your car changes, the carbon deposits, motor gets old, things change. and the factory ecu setting in those cars is set for a NEW engine right out of the dealer, and when the comptuer tries to run an old motor at new settings it wont run right until the ecu adjusts the neccesary things.

alot of people that get batteries replaced run into this problem where they think the mechanic ruined the car hwile replacing the battery.

umm i dunno i bought it like that, the kill switch cuts off all the power i think. the lights or anything else will not work, nor will my keyless entry. so yea no power at all wen i take out the switch. so i should just let it run for like 15 mins every time i put it back in? man that'll be a bitch i take it out since i basically live in the hood, dont want it jacked.

what u need to do is "kill" that kill switch. Just run a switch to cut off the power to the starter, the igniton, or the fuel pump. it's very easy to do. the wires for the igniton and starter can be found right on the ingition key switch/steering wheel column. Do this so that all power to your car wont be killed

im asking, WHAT is this "switch"? if you have to take it out, then i'm assuming its a fuse or something. that's a pretty ghetto method..

a real kill "switch" is wired to some component in your car that prevents startup (i.e. the fuel pump in most cases) and is an actual switch that you flip on and off in the car, and doesn't usually interfere with power and such.

well actually. Kill switches can be made for Electrical, Fuel Pump, and Starter. anything you name it. you can hook anything in ur car to a switch.

that's why i said "usually", because typically the kill switches people DIY are for the fuel pump or ignition.
