Kill switch for the 2001 Integra?
I noticed that the 2000-2001 Integras come equiped with a some sort of built in security having to do with the key. The previous owner of my car said it was a "kill switch." Is there any truth to this? Can this so called "kill switch" be easily deactivated by thieves? any info on this subject will be of help since I am planing on purchase an OEM alarm from acura.
coded keys.
sends a signal to start your car.
car wont start without the signal from the key.
if its oem you should be okay. aftermarket alarms - remote starts usually make it goto waste.
if its just an alarm it wont matter if its factory or not.

well, has a 2000-2001 integra ever been stolen?
THe question answer itself.
If a theif wants your car, he'll get it, all we can do is make it as hard as possible

You still haven't answered my question.
I already know that a thief can steal anything if wants with the proper time/money invested but this is besides the point.

How? Is it really easy? If you don't want to post it please IM me.
*edit*
isn't this suppose to stop theives from being able to hot wire your car or can they just bypass it really easily.

This is not the answer I am looking for people...
I know that the keys cannot be copied because the are coded by a certian numbers out of somthing crazy like 4 billion different combinations. Only 3 sets of keys are made with this code after that it is impossible to copy them. If you lose the keys you have to replace the entire ingnition system and the keys aswell to have them reprogrammed.
My question is.. How hard is it for thieves to get around this? REMEMBER THIS IS A THIEF WITHOUT A FLAT BED OR TOW TRUCK.

After I changed my 01 teg to ODB1 the key light in the guage cluster no longer lights up when I turn the car on. So I suspect it doesn't use the coded security any more. Is this correct? If it is then all a theif has to do is spend 5 min changing your car to ODB1.
Yeah, if you've got the ODB1 ecu and an ODB2 -> ODB1 harness. Just unbolt 6 screws and switch them out.
Even if the ECU isn't perfect they can still steal your car in limp mode, it just takes them longer to get away. hehehe

yeah but the harness mean that the OBD1 is connected to the OBD2 so doesn't it have to go through the OBD2? Are you sure you weren't still using your original keys?
No, you take the ODB2 ecu out when you put the ODB1 in.
I didn't say this disabled the security, I haven't tried it with a non-factory key. I just said that the key light in the dash no longer lights up when the car is started so MAYBE it disables that security feature. I can't confirm this, I was hoping someone more knowledgable would fill me in. Maybe I will spend $1 and get a key made to test this.

swap the ecu and start it. lol. i dunno im not a theif but a good guess.
i think they can still get past it though. it only slows them down a little.

sorry im not trying to be a dick but i need some FACTS, "i think" aint gonna cut it. I need to know how they would usually get around it or how this immobilizer feature works. See the thing is I don't think they can get around it... and until somone proves me otherwise I believe that the only way you can steal an 00-01 is by towing or flat bed. Why else would Honda include this feature on the 00-01 other then to deter amaetur theives?

I do know this, my 01 is a theft recovery and it was crashed into a sign. Although my guess is the person got drunk, crashed it, and reported it stolen. Anyways I'll get a key made on my way home and will tell you if it starts my car or not. Then I'll be back with facts.
i can tell you now not all 00-01 Integras were stolen on a flatbed.
Yours asking a bunch of non theives on how to get past something that they never worked with. There is a way around anything and i would not base that as your sole anti theft device if your that worried.

They can have the immobilizer feature disabled. You can have another modififed ECU in your hand and swap it out. Then the immobilizer wouldn't do anything. It'll throw a CEL but doesn't affect anything.
