Just installed new catback, now I have a couple ?s
Alright.. I just took off my old exhaust and put on my brand new RS*R ExMag. It's my first time installing an exhaust so it took me a little while, but I'm done and it sounds really good & I actually felt some power gain, which I wasn't expecting since it's chambered.
There are two things I noticed when I took it for a ride though... 1. It smells like something is burning.. I'm guessing this might be normal because all the material inside the pipes are just burning away? & 2. My shifter or shift linkage is touching the pipe a little. It's not too bad, but enough to slightly vibrate my shifter when I rev. What should I do??

The smell is the burning from new metal. And you can stop the vibration of the shifter by lowering the exhaust a little with new hangers, or you can bend them down somehow.

yea dude ur straight with the smell all exhaust systems stink like a motha wen u first put them on.. just like headers and header wraps.. and for the vibration my friend has a civic and his did that 2.. i told him to bend the hangers so it would move the exhaust away. he never did and it styll vibrates and wen u move it to the right it hits the exhaust and pings.. he has had it liek that for 3 months now and its fine so no rush just do it, dont be lazy like him... goodluck

you can't just change your hangers with common tools.. take it to an exhaust shop and have them weld it for you.

I got a longer hanger, but no good... I guess I can go buy enough longer ones to do the entire exhaust system or I can bend the hangers. I called RS*R and they said it was because I have the skunk2 short shifter.. oh well.

Take it to a muffler shop, and have them modify the metal hanger on the exhaust, not the rubber ones.
edit: did this to my skunk2 shifter and now its all good.

ok, so I fixed the problem & I figured I'd post to let everyone know what I did. Turns out it was because of my Skunk2 shifter.. it sits kinda low and was hitting the straight pipe. So I went under the car and saw that there were different hangers for the muffler, so I just moved the rubber hangers onto the lower ones and now it doesn't vibrate the shifter anymore! Sine the entire exhaust system is pretty tight, it didn't help to just take off the striaght pipe hangers because the muffler still held it up pretty well, but as soon as I brought the muffler down everything tilted down a little.. just enough to make room for the shifter.
