Default intermitent vtec

i jus got back the first teg i ever owned. sold it 5 yrs ago, got it back yesterday its a 92 gsr. new plugs, oil change, and a clutch were installed today. anyway vtec is acting up it will come in then go out and back in (kinda like stumbles) thru all gears no check engine light oil level is correct stock motor stock ecu(p61) im pretty sure the car sat for a while, could the screen inside the spool selenoid be clogged, or the whole thing be bad? any imput would be greatly appreciated

Sounds like a connection might be loose. I would check the solenoid wiring/plugs.

I don't think the solenoid could go bad with it sitting there...

if the connection was loose would it not throw a 21 or 22 code?


any thoughts on the screen being clogged?

check fuel pressure, could be a fuel problem

well today i went out and jumped the blue n black wires and still does the same thing, im gonna try to ground the black wire to the chassis. none of the wires are coroded. i even swapped out the selenoid and still no change. may swap out the dizzy?

Are you sure its your vtec? All it takes is 12v and oil pressure to make it crossover. So either your oil pump is junk or you have a loose connection somewhere.

no i didnt get shocked to death by the ground, but that wasnt it either. im going to try a p30 ecu next. i did find that the fuel return line was cracked up pretty good, so i changed that, then the damn exhaust fell off, so itll be a couple of days till i can get that fixed. when i do figure it out i will let you guys know what happened, but at this point i think that it might be the oil pump. again thank you to everyone that has helped me out

Low oil would do it. Lack of pressure would do it too. I would check the screen to see if it's clean and the oil is at the correct level, and that the oil pressure is correct.
