Default Intakes

I live in a town with moderate rainfall... I am deciding between AEM v2, cold-air, and short ram... I don't really drive through huge puddles... just the occasional standing water right after rainfall...

Any Suggestions on which one i should go with... or any other brands

PS: Want all of the power i can, without hydro-locking, under 250... money isn't really an issue, im not gonna get a turbo though...

PSS: its for a 94 GSR incase you didn't look at the name

Just make sure that if you get a CAI, get the bypass valve. Last thing you need is hydrolock, and that will help a lot.

Eh, I'm running an AEM CAI and not fearing the hydrolock. I've heard you have to essentially submerge the entire filter before it will happen, and if there's that much water on the road, I'm not driving through it.

i dont know how much rain you get there, but take it from someone in florida.... you don't want a hydrolocked motor(been there done that)

go ahead with the cai, what i did was cut it around where a short ram would be and run it like that when it is raining alot, and get a coupler to extend it to cold air fo when you want that

just my opinion

Comptech Icebox w/filter

Living in WA state we have torrential downpours and often very deep puddles, flooded roads, and standing water, I would never trust a CAI.

Plus the icebox looks stock.

ice box all the way. looks stock, sounds great, and unless you submerge the filter in water, the chance in hydro-lock is very very low.

Comptech short ram intake with custom fitted A'PEXi Power Filter (damn nice), and Comptech Icebox. That's my setup, no regrets whatsoever, that might be the best things I have ever bought for my GSR. AEM isn't even close to the Comptech pieces, Comptech actually tests things. That V2 thing is ridiculous, by trying to make more power with waves, it's just a dumb gimmick to get people who bought their AEM cold air intakes into spending even more money on this crap. I know three people personally who have ingested water with AEM cold air intakes.

In washington, the risk of hydro-locking my motor wasn't worth the minimal gaina that a CAI would give over short ram to me. Your call though

the bypass vavle only works if the filters totally submurged correct? if that were the case its my opinion that its a complete waste of 50 bones

short ram...a tenth in the quarter mile is nothing when you consider ruining ur motor. And as for not driving through the water if you saw it, I thought the same thing, until i found myself caught in a torrential downpoor in the middle of the summer here in cali. there was no way to get around it short of stopping on a one lane highway with no shoulder.

So my .02 is to get the Short Ram, if my opinion matters

Well... I will probably end up going with the short ram... i guess the AEM short ram isn't the best... So any suggestions on brand... I already heard Comptech Icebox, but it is pricey...

Also what filters are good... k&n ?????

titan motorsports tested numerous filters (dynoed) and they found the A'PEXi Power Filter made the most power and gave the best filtration.... not the Greddy. Search great intake test. It should be in the archives.
