idle screw wont adjust idle
i tried to adjust my idle but the screw plays no role in adjusting it for some reason. My idle chills at the second to last line on the tach. possibble reasons?

Re: idle screw wont adjust idle (NAmodified)
The idle is actually computer controlled using the IACV (Idle Air Control Valve). This is the small electromechanical device on the backside of the intake manifold (at least thats where it is on my 90 LS). The small screw adjustment simply sets the throttle close position.

I think you have to disconnect the IACV, then the idle drops, CEL goes on then you can adjust the screw. Then you take the ECU Fuse out so it resets then your set.

dude the idle screw controlls air flow at idle, the Iacv is computer contolled, and ive already cleaned out my iacv and all. reset ecu, my idle still wont adjust.

try adjusting the screw under the throttle rotor w/ the nut on it. it controls the opening of the butterfly plate inside your tb. it might need to be opened a little more.

The port behind the idle screw could be plugged. Have you tried cleaning the throttle body? Make sure that the IACV is disconnected when adjusting the idle screw. The engine must be fully warm and all lights and accessories must be off. The idle is typically set to 450 RPM. (depends on model and year) When the IACV is reconnected, the car should idle at 750 RPM.

I had the opposite problem when my TB was bored. I had to close the plate more because the idle was too high.

Re: idle screw wont adjust idle (Dogginator)
Didn't know the idle is supposed to be at 450 rpm with the IACV unplugged. Thats goot info because mine is at about 550...
