Default IAB + Vtec Wireup

Ok well , with my tax return coming in , its time to do some performance improvement.
I plan on getting a header and chipped ECU. Now , I for one definitively feel a difference when the secondaries kick in so I wanna stay with a chipped p72 and I am thinking about finding a way to wire the IAB's to activate in conjunction with Vtec instead of at 5700 or so. How do you guys feel about this idea? Most people just say get a chipped p28 and go Obd1 and forget about the IAB's but im not so sure of this. Which would be a better idea to go with, please explain why. Thank you in advance

Wow. I was going to reply, but as I kept reading there are just too many points to correct. You are so far off it's not even funny. NONE of what you posted sounds like a good idea, except maybe a header.

Chipped ECU = bad
P28 on gsr IM = bad
rewiring GSR butterflies to 4400 = bad
obd1 = bad (not smoggable and totally unnecessary unless you plan on tuning)

Not to be an *******, but you REALLY need to do some research. And not like an hour either. Like a week or 2.

Are you serious?

Chipped ECU is a bad idea?? WTH?
OBD1 is a bad idea? WTH?

To the OP, I would either use the P28 and run vacuum directly to the iab diaghram to keep them open, or use the P72. Don't run the IAB's on the same circuit as VTEC.

Are YOU serious? How is a chipped ecu a "good idea"?? It's some air/fuel ratio for some god-knows-what car that has NOTHING to do with the OPs setup. NEVER is a "chipped ecu" a good idea. Now tuning, that's a totally different story, but I'm pretty sure that's NOT what the OP meant. By "chipped ecu" I think of those "spoon" chips off ebay with a set a/f mixture and not a Hondata or Crome chip.

Please explain why converting to OBD1 would be a "good idea", as I already stated, the car will no longer be smoggable and there is ZERO performance advantage.

Also keeping your IABs open at all times isn't the best setup by any means. It'll work, but you'll lose low end torque.

Whatever, I think you're trolling, or you need to do some research yourself.

eBay chips? Wtf... I was actually going to get a Neptune program and have it tuned on a dyno.,.

Then completely disregard my statement about chipped ECUs and OBD1 lol.

Sorry, never saw the word "tune", it's kinda key. =P

In that case... yes, OBD1 will be necessary. Tuning a car on the dyno is the best "mod" you can do IMHO. The P28 would probably be your best bet, but I'd look into switching out that p72 intake manifold for a single stage design if you're going to run a p28.

Sorry for the confusion.

I run a P72 ECU with a HONDATA S300 with IAB in my GSR for over 5 year now. Just get a P72 ECU and a wire harness OBD2-OBD1. There will be a relay that is need to get the IAB to work correctly, difference between and OBD2 and OBD1 car. In the Smanage software you can adjust the IAB activation point, this should be set the same way a tuner sets VTEC.

No problem lol , I have never even heard of those awful sounding chips. I've just always looked at a chipped ecu as a ecu with a tuned program, I guess I should of elaborated. As far as a single stage manifold I've done sone research back in the day and I heard I would actually lose some low end torque that way unless I was going for a mild build with cams and such. And to the poster above me. I don't even..... What the?.......

Some low end. HAHA. I lost 20whp. The was retuned again with major cam gear adjustments and it finally lost 10whp. I have a new reworked GSR manifold on the way that should be the best of both worlds. It outflows a Skunk2 Pro and Performer X and still has dual runners.
