Done everything myself. Dropping in an engine. Putting a head, block and tranny together. New valvesprings, t-belt, waterpump, clutch, shocks. Turbo. I don't trust others with my car.

I have done, and will do everything myself. Clutch, timing belt, tranny work, engine work, minor body work. The only thing I'll have somebody else do is machining, painting, and frame work.

do helm's manual book tell you how to swap things?? or it's just a manual how to fix a car when there is a problem?

It doesn't say how to swap engines. It tells how to take the engine out & put it back in...

You'll want the Helm book for your car as well as the Helm book for the donor car where the engine came from. That way you can compare wiring harness drawings, stuff like that.

I checked there before, and all I get is",No items found. Helm does not carry any products that match the criteria you have searched. Possible reasons may include the following: your manufacturer has discontinued this product or such a product does not exist. Please check the criteria to ensure that you entered in all information accurately. If you need further assistance, please contact your vehicle manufacturer." are there any stores I can pick this up at? i've checked autozone/pepboys and the Acura dealership. anyone get it from a store, or a shop?

i consider myself very lucky, i have a dad who was a GM master technician. i had access to the garage he worked for, on evenings and weekends. now hes retired from automotives and just built a 6 car garage for personal use, its pretty hooked up, has a paint bay and soon it will have a lift. ive learned all i know from him, i wouldnt consider myself an expert, but if i have any questions i can always ask him. i dont own many tools, just a stanley took kit, but my dad has every tool you can imagine.

ive done almost all my own work including replacing a crank in my old chevy beretta. and replacing all the suspension and doing all the body work after i spun it into a guard rail and totaled it . only thing i havent done to my cars is paint, i did the body work and prep, but had my dad's friend do the spraying at his garage. now that we have a garage big enough for painting, we can do that too (my dad was a body man before he was a technician).

with my new car, 1998 GSR, i have only replaced the brakes (pretty easy job). this winter i plan on replacing the factory exhaust. (header. cat muffler and all the piping.

clifff notes: i do my own work, with the occasional help of my father, i use his garage and his tools

i'd say take your time and do everything yourself. i just did a swap and turbo install all at once. took about a week, but was well worth it. just get some help if you need it and research before you start the project.

I've done all the work myself, it pays off to learn every little aspect about your car. The only problem is my friends are constantly at my house while I mod their cars, and they just sit and watch!

I use to pay to get stuff done, then a year ago I started doing everything I could by myself because I got sick of dealing with shops. So far, I've installed coilovers, FJO wideband, short shifter & poly bushings, poly engine mount inserts, removed my AC and CC, stereo equipment, strut bars, do all my own routine maintenance now, etc... I was afraid of screwing stuff up at first so I always preferred getting work done by other people, then I got sick of paying and feeling like I was getting dicked around. It is amazing how much satisfaction you can get from installing your own parts, I have learned so much from it. I will never pay for anything that I can do with my own tools, or can do with tools that would cost me less than paying someone else to do it. Accumulate tools and over time it just gets cheaper and cheaper to do things yourself.

did everything myself.....intake, header, paint job (took auto body for 2 yrs), install wing, take out some dents, change my oil, change my brakes, installed my own stereo, change all belts except timing (no timing gun and air compressor)....there might be more things i did myself.

*cheers*

The only thing on my car that I haven't done was the exhaust install. That was because it needed some custom welding to fit, and the shop just installed it to ensure fitment. My friend and I installed the coilovers (more him than me, but I understand the process a lot better now) and I did the intake and wired the MP3 player I used to have. I don't think someone should be paid for simple bolt on installs. I don't think i'll be doing my own internal work, but other stuff I've done.
