i have a 96 LS *auto and want to speed it up. i currently just have a cai so i got some $$ to spend. i don't want to do a tranny swap. i am willing to go fi or turbo. any other ideas ? or just go all motor and bolt-ons ? give me some ideas please. not asking to hit 12s or anythings but 13s would be nice.

How much money? Trading it for a car with a manual transmission would be the first step. Running 13s with the automatic is pretty much impossible: if you were making enough power it would just slip and you'd ruin it. B18B N/A is a waste of time and money... there is no power to be had without VTEC.

The best solution, manual transmission + turbo. Then you can run 13s.

talk to teken. his auto G2 ran a 13.XX with a dual stage 150 shot NOS system. but he also had his tranny built up to handle the power.

my boy went 14.0 when his ls was auto. all he had was low boost. i'm sure that u could do the same or even better.

Don't worry about the doubters of autos... there is a problem with your auto tho... you need to get a high stall speed torque converter as a first step... this will give you a sportier, more positive shift. And if you go turbo, you will definitely need one... otherwise the luxo auto shift that your teg comes with will quickly burn the clutch.
NOS will kill the auto without this upgrade.

The next step for that auto is beefier cams, springs and retianers. auto engines have a smaller cam lobe if I am not mistaken... although this may only be on the VTEC models...but I believe this holds true on the LS's also.. can anyone back me up on this ?

yeah nitrous would be a quik way of gettin faster...with a tranny rebulid...check out level10 trannmissions they got extensives parts to rebuild ur tranny to handle more power...

haha we are in the same boat. if u want to go turbo then by all means go turbo. me im going all motor with my auto i know it wont go as much as a stick but i dont care its my car. but yah dont go with bolt ons first they are almost a waste of money for our car. mine are just for looks and sound. if your going all motor get some cams, cam gears. you will definetly like the extra pull. also look into getting a head package from some performance place like endyn, gude, atomic, portflow (sorry cant think of any more). but yah right now im keeping up with GSRs and SIs hopefully by the end of this year ill be smoking them. haha hopefully

MRXMuffin, what do you have in your auto right now?? I want to know cause I have an auto too. I want to hang with GSR's. All I have is intake, exhaust, pulling mid 16's . So any advice would help. Also, how much did your setup cost you? thanks a lot bro!

my wife's ls auto has ran a 14.2 with a 70hp shot of nitrous on slicks.it has currently had this set-up for over 40,000 miles with no problems(even with the tranny).we are starting a turbo set-up this week and plan on running 13's.

14.2 that's impressive. What kind of NOS kit are you running. Also my integra has about 70,000 miles. WOuld NOS still be safe? And hows the tranny holding up? did you do anything to the tranny? Thanks a lot!

CAMS man it makes a big difference. i have gude cams and a gude head and of course the usual i/h/e. There is a point where i can no longer hang with GSRs and SIs thats around 90+mph. but yah look into gettting some crower 403s and some cam gears and tuning and you will have a nice day.

my setup is no where near complete but so far. my i/h/e cost around 1200 and my head and cams cost 1000 and 600 for labor. im looking at putting my aem cam gears in next month and getting better tires. later this will be the rest of the GUDE head package (tb, manifold,ecu).

The LS auto tranny is crap....my friend ran 8lbs on his and one day....POOF it was all over, a tranny swap is the easiest thing to do....

He swaped in a GSR tranny that i had laying in my garage.......the only aspect that took some time was adjusting the clutch pedal

When my LS was too slow i put in a Type-R setup engine, tranny, suspension, etc.....not interior though....i like cloth....eeehehehe
it was all from my friends R when he crashed.....and i got lucky

A tranny swap is your best bet because it will bolt right up.....try to get an Si tranny or even GSR and do an LSD you will be very happy. A&H also has a decient price on R trannies so you could check with them.

The one clear advantage to having an auto in a Turbo app is in boost building and holding. By 1. getting a higher stall tranny and 2. stalling it up on the line you will be on boost right off the line. Since the tranny does the shifting you can hold the throttle wide open during shifts and therefore boost wont drop during this time.
