Default HIDs do me dry

seems as if you cant post a topic with more than 1/2 caps... so I change it up a bit with "do me dry" lol

So im looking for places to mount 6 HID balasts...

I am a total HID noob, and I was wondering how well the units like being stacked, if I can stack them then some of the mounting places I have scouted can hold the two headlight balasts for each side and Im sure I can find something for the foglight HIDs down inside the bumper somewhere

Any special rules about balast placement like they have to be flush mounted on a metal object so they can ground to the frame? I am fairly good with electrical so extending wires is not a problem, if I had to run the stuff in from the hatch I could lol

Thanks in advance for all your help

also, my buddy IN VTEC mentioned something about different types of bulbes for the projector housings and regular reflector style housings, I was wondering how critical the type of bulb is and what the effects might be of using the wrong type

D2S = Projector
D2R = Reflector

The D2R has a shield on it that blocks out some of the light that comes when the bulb is inside of a reflector housing. There is too much useless light that would be scattered/glared so the shield reduces that. I believe there is a way to sand it off or something but, then again why not just get D2S if you're got projectors?

The word is, if you use D2R bulbs in a projector housing the beam pattern will be very much like poo. This is in comparison to using D2S bulbs in the projector housing. Which is made for that type of headlight assembly anyways.

If you haven't already purchased all 6 sets, I'd recommend that you at least pass on one set and ideally on both the high-beam and the fog set. The stock Integra high-beams are quite good as it is, and HID's don't like being switched on and off rapidly, as high-beams often are. As far as the fog lights, if the housings weren't originally intended for HID use, the resulting beam pattern (once retrofitted) will most likely be less effective in fog than with the stock halogen bulbs, due to increased glare and scatter. HID low-beams, standard foglights, and stock high-beams should provide more than enough illumination. If you are looking for a very high-quality lighting upgrade, you should look into an OEM projector HID retrofit.

I have to say that is a LOT of HIDs and they will, if you didn't buy them already, cost you an arm and a leg. As others have told me I would skip on some of the lights and use that money on engine parts or something to boost performance. Really though, I don't think you need more than two HIDs. I don't know much about them but 6 you will not need. After you install the initial two the rest will just blind you and every other driver haha.

6????

dang, someone will be blindin

d2s for projectors, d2r for reflectors
you can use different bulbs in different housing and the light output will be ok, but it will not be as good as it could be

I'll try to get pics for those that care to see. Might burn out my camera's CCD if I try to take a pic with all 3 sets on tho.

Next week's gonna be a fun week for his car.

3rd set for foglights. But really, that is kinda overkill.

My HID low beams plus stock high beams (plain clear 9005 bulbs) totally light up the night on dark backroads and stuff. I couldn't imagine needing more HID systems than just the low beams.

I would like to install a set of foglights, either OEM or otherwise, to help fill in the gaps left by the HID inside a halogen housing near the front of my car, something with a short, wide beam pattern.

I believe I may have posted an error, 3 sets, 6 balasts

Edit:

When it comes to lighting, I LOVE overkill...

Im one of those a$$holes who drives down the road with his high beams, fogs and all 7 of his assorted KC Floods, Driving, and spotlights on

HID high beams in pointless. It takes time for HID's to get bright, and you usually don't run your high beams for more than 30 seconds at a time.

HID in low beams should be bright enough.

HID foglights are a grip. 1 G.
