E55 projectors are probably the easiest to fit in Integra headlights. The overall length and lens diameter match the stock projectors almost exactly. You don't have to do any drilling on the projector itself, or use any spacers or anything. Just cut off the stock projector, enlarge the hole some, and mount the HID projector's mounting flange directly onto the Integra headlight bracket.

what year E55?
and how much does it usually cost? i am thinking of getting one real soon

Default Ok...

Question for those that have done the "retrofit"...

1. How much money total did you spend on your setup (ballasts, bulbs, projector, wiring, fuses, misc. parts, etc...)?

2. How much down time would you say was involved in the "retrofit"?

I searched the current posts, and the archived posts...and I haven't really gotten a straight forward answer to the 2 questions above.

Like I have said before...15 minutes for installing my setup...no modifications to the headlight ("retrofitting" - taking things apart and reassembling)...and a lot more light for driving over stock Halogen...is just more agreeable to me...and probably many others too.

Not saying that "retrofits" are not worth it for those that have the time...money...and know how...

- to all!

Well I reused the ballasts from my previous HID kit, but the projectors and bulbs cost a total of about $230, so whatever ballasts would cost on top of that....

Wiring etc. is just minimal costs

In my case there wasn't any real "downtime" as I did the retrofit on the insides of some 94-97 headlights that I had, then when I was done, I took my 98+ headlight apart, swapped in the retrofitted insides, and put it back together.

So, in your case (and others in a similar situation) maybe around $250-300...but that was because you had spare parts lying around.

For those that don't have the spare parts at their disposal...I would assume that an H.I.D. retrofit would cost more?

Not necessarily. I got my e46 retrofit for 275. And I pretty much did what Patrick did. I went to the junk yard found 2 94-97 headlights that were busted but made sure the inside was still good. The junkyard gave them up real cheap. Paid less than 300 bux for everything. It just takes time to do everything. And since I nit pick at everything, it took me basically 2 whole days from taking the bumper off and putting it back on and adjusting the beams to make sure I don't blind oncoming people. I felt very good about it as well once I was completely done. The difference in light is like night and day imo. Retrofit is the way to go

Sp two days of downtime without your car...time searching for the e46 retrofit, and time spent at the junkyard looking for decent used Integra headlights. Some of us need our car driveable at all times. But it seems that everything worked out for you.

I just want people to be aware of what is really involved in a "retrofit", thats all. It's not completely simple like some think it will be.

And what happens if something is broke while trying to do the "retrofit" on your car? More time and money delays.

That's why it's a good idea to do the work on spare parts instead of hacking up your only headlights. You only need the inside headlight bracket, if you can find a broken headlight w/ the inside part still intact, you can use that and then transfer them into your own headlights when you get everything done.

If you search for D2S on ebay you'll find lots of stuff. Sometimes you can find people selling a complete set of projectors, bulbs, and ballasts for $350-$450.

I have to reiterate what PatrickGSR94 is trying to point out here.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by PatrickGSR94 &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">

Yes the HID kit puts down TONS more light than halogen, but most of it is directly in front of the car in the form of hotspots. Truthfully I don't think my Philips bulbs from VisualDynamics projected the light much farther down the road than did the 9005-converted halogen bulbs.</TD></TR></TABLE>

Without properly controlling where the light goes, simply getting HIDs without the proper housing is not much better than having your halogen high beams on.

Well...not exactly. Driving with your Halogen high beams on illuminates light on everything around you...and about a 1000 feet in front of you...plus it blinds any drivers in front of you due to the way they are aimed.

My H.I.D. setup illuminates everything in front of me, and does not blind any trafic that is in front of me.

But like I said before...all the more power to the "retrofit"!
