I have a 5k HID "kit for my car and my girlfriend recently got the 6k "kit". Now I knew from the beginning nothing will compare to a true HID setup with the correct projectors. Eventually I may look into it more but at the time getting a true setup would be ALOT more and I couldn't see myself spending all that extra money. I think these "kits" are just fine and even though the output isn't as clean as the true HIDs. Although there is no question your putting down a hell of alot more light than the oem bulbs.
If you have the money and are able to get the true HID's get em. If your just looking for the kit and it's in the $300-400 range I'd say go for it. I'm sure you could find true HID deals out there in this range but it all depends on your expertise on installing them. I don't recall any true HID kits as easy to install as the kits I bought.
Eventually I might upgrade to HID projectors but I've got another car I'm building so it's the last thing on my mind. I must say upgrading the lighting was the best mod I've done to my teg
Here are some photos to help compare color, for those who needed it.

wtf is ruskeR talking about. not to offend you but with 300-400 i believe you can get true HID kit which is hid with merdz, audi, or bmers projector. correct me if im wrong but i was looking into hids for a quite a bit and retrofit seems like the best result and the bang for the buck. 300-400$ you get a hid like benz or bmers. and patrick you are talking about E55 mercedes rite? cuz im looking to retrofit one for my teg and if E55 fits pretty good on teg housing then i def get the E55 projectors

Same as S2000 only the cutoff step pattern goes the opposite way. Canuck MX6 has posted pics of his, do a search or go to his website.
usually an HID retrofit setup can be found for $350-$450, whether you buy everything together (projectors, bulbs, ballasts) or if you piece them together.
I recommend you piece it together, because you really should use brand new D2S bulbs. If you buy everything together from one seller, you might get used bulbs, and since xenon bulbs color shift over time, there's no way to know if the bulbs are a matched set.
Or if you find someone selling just projectors and ballasts, get that and then get brand new D2S bulbs.
If you search for D2S on ebay you'll find lots of stuff.

I have NO idea what real HIDs run nowadays. Because I don't look. I put my HIDs in almost 2 years ago so you can imagine how much a real HID setup would cost back then was I was looking. You didn't offend me because I said the same thing you did. I just don't know what the hell your talking about.

Not to offend you but don't ask wtf am I talking about if you start off your statment with.. I believe you can get true HIDs in the 300-400 range. Doesn't sound like you know ethier, I'd suggest next time reading through all of someones post before questioning what they said. It's all good though
I'm sure if someone looks around long enough you can find really good deals on OEM HIDs. If your lucky enough maybe when some of these cars get a little older you'll start seeing them in junkyards.
iwannaboostmyteg, the pictures were taken with a 20-30 second exposure. A little long but it gives you an idea.

I highly recommend Phillips setup...no problems, no projector housing modification, easy install (true plug and play), much better than stock Halogen bulbs, no glare with stock/level headlight setting, and looks almost as good as OEM H.I.D.
Since my install, I have received nothing but complements. Parked right next to my friends Lexus IS300, there was basically no difference in light intensity. After I compared the light from the two cars (his Lexus IS300 and my GS-R), I could see that projector housing modification of any kind was kind of pointless and a waste of time...thus I have never done it.
My install...
Phillips H.I.D. Ballasts
Phillips D2S H.I.D. bulbs rated at 4100 or 4300K (I don't remember).
Replaced the stock 10 amp fuses with 20 amp fuses (Important!!!)
15 minute total install time.
I bought my kit for $400 during a major "group-buy" in the Integra forum about 1 - 1 1/2 years ago.
I'll never go back to Halogen again.
Any questions PM me...I am more than happy to help.

While it is alot better than stock, I do have to disagree about that last part. Since I have had all setups (stock halogen, 9005 conversion, HID kit, and now OEM bi-xenon HID retrofit) I can safely say that OEM HID blows away everything else. I wish I had not even wasted my money on the HID kit. What I could have had for $400-$450, ended up costing a total of $650 (cost of HID kit and retrofit parts together).
Yes the HID kit puts down TONS more light than halogen, but most of it is directly in front of the car in the form of hotspots. Truthfully I don't think my Philips bulbs from VisualDynamics projected the light much farther down the road than did the 9005-converted halogen bulbs.

I concur.
Out of all the people who have responded to this site, Patrick is probably the most experience when it comes to HID. Even I can admit that. While, I have knowledgeable info about HID Lighting, Patrick has more hands-on experience with your aftermarket kits and retrofitting.
So listen to what he says. It's for your own good.
And uhhhh, like most threads, this is getting old.

Yeah I do have quite a bit of experience, but others have had more. MTK Kommander has had an HID kit in his Integra, retrofitted E46 projectors into his 240SX, and then later changed those out for S2000 projectors, and just recently put RX330 projectors in his dad's Tacoma. I'm sure he knows a little bit about it, too.
And then there's Tony the Tiger, who has E-class bi-xenons in his Integra, X5 projectors AND E-class bi-xenon projectors in his Camry, and RS6 bi-xenon projectors in his 1.6EL (Civic), and custom LED turn signals, tails, and brake lights in all 3.

6000K =
the higher up in the kelvin you go, the less and less the lumens are.. and the funny part is, usually these garbage 6000K kits cost more than the 4300K kits which put down way more light..
4300K = 3200 lumens
6000K = 2400 or less lumens
do the math.

6000k if you want to be showy...
4000k if you want to be a lil safer
Have a friend with a 6000k...too blue that he's gotten popped from the police three times...
I use and OLD SCHOOL phillip hid...4100K and I've never been popped...
Maybe I'm lucky..neverknow..

retrofit will be best, wish i had time to do it... i think i'm just lazy
But if you want a kit go 4,300k anything higher will be less light output and a waste of money!
