Default HID conversion worth it?

I was just curious if you guys think an HID conversion is worth it on my stock 96LS headlights. Since my headlights werent made for HIDs I know I wont get optimum performance out of it.

Pictures of conversions on stock headlights will help me out alot. Especially before and after pics.

Thanks Guys!

Are we talking about PnP kits or retrofitted ones...?

Your headlights are built for it and you will throw glare onto oncomming traffic and just **** people off while being able to see better at night.

I vote no.

Dude...with integra projectors you will NOT be blinding the hell out of people. They aren't perfect, but they work very well considering they were made for Halogen output.

Retrofitters and their superiority complex...pfft!

My stock projector output...NEVER been flashed.

Thanks man! That helps alot! What kinda kit did you buy and who from? Did the kit make you dims shine further down the road or just brighter with the same distance?

I have a PnP kit and am happy with them until I can afford to retrofit.
They're not the greatest but they are better than halogen, and I'm not blinding everyone on the road either.

So how much does a retrofit cost? I know most people do it themselves, but how much does all parts cost?

I have an O-NEX kit - 6000k, but I'm thinking of switching to 4300k. 6000k is just fine, but 4300k will be a slight bit brighter, and make my blue cutoff a bit more noticeable.

If I was rolling in dough, I'd LOVE to get a retrofit. But given that our projectors are relatively capable of handling the HID output, I'd rather take advantage of what I have than spend upwards of $400 for a retrofit (parts, labor).

Edit: Output was improved across the board, the only *problem* with our projectors is the width of the beam. But if you're going 40+ mph, and you see something moving in front of you from the side of the road, that fraction of a second that you see it is probably not going to make a difference in how you handle the situation.

Thats my main concern. I have Silver Stars now and the beam is so narrow that it looks like I have two spotlights. I think I need to adjust them up a little but im not sure.

Ya know how on most cars if you shine your lights on a building from about 100ft away you`ll have a line going across the building about 5ft tall. Mine dont really go onto the building at all. They pretty much stay on the ground.

6k blubs are gonna have a worse output than stock, dont buy cheap 'xenon' bulbs they are terrible. i would only buy stock bulbs or hid kits (not hid bulbs) or retros.

go with a PnP kit. ive got one and man it was a big difference from stock halogen. i got 8k. but 6k is i believe most optimum. the higher the color the slightly less visability but more blue and purple color. 6k is white with a slight hint of blue. its also most popular for visability. you can find good kits for over $100 i got mine for 140 shipped from xenith xenons here on HT. so far they've been great to me. and make your car look dope oem yellow fogs look sick with HIDs too.

4300K is best for visibility, not 6000k.

I also got the xenith xenons one and I'm very happy with it.

Dude, the k has nothing to do with how bright it is. It stands for Kelvin. As in Kelvin`s Absolute Thermometric Scale. The higher the K, the higher the temp, and the higher the temp, the less bright it is.

The higher temp also causes a different color projection. i.e. hyper white to blue to deep blue to purple and so on.

The scale actually goes up to like 273K but im sure you would have to have some kind of special metal to house it because of the extreem heat.

that doesn't look bad... but then again, it's a crappy picture. seriously, to the OP: do your research and save your money for a retrofit. you can do it yourself, source the parts easily, learn a lot, and get a better result in the end. search "HID retrofit" and what not. google "skafia" and he did one way long ago. audi a6 projectors can be had for cheap these days.... retrofit = better performing.

Hey...don't knock the cell phone pic! Haha. Yeah...if you can, go retro. If not, then get a kit. Just don't go higher than 6k...and don't put them in a civic.

x2. If talking about retrofitted headlights, there is a "HID Retrofit Club" thread right here on Honda-Tech actually, where you can see pictures of retrofitted headlights. Here's a few of my friend's EG after he got his done.

trust me. unless you want to go blue or purple i suggest you stay under 8k so that you have better visibility. it even tells you this on the site you purchase from. or it should at least. my next set up will mostly likely be 6k.
