Default Help!! Wheel stud spins with the lug nut!!

I was taking the wheel off the rear of my car and one of the studs came loose and started to spin with the lug nut. anybody have any good ideas on the best route to get it out? by the way, its still on the stands now and this does suck.

thanks

alright have you got an air gun. I work at a tire store and this is the easiest way to tighten it back down if the stud is not stripped. ok get a closed end wrench big enough to fit over the stud and small enough so the lug nut will not go through it, I should say a 12 millimeter wrench will do it. now put the wrench over the stud then thread the lug nut on and run it on with the air gun. this will pull the stud tight and it should stay.
If you do not have an air gun, try the same method with the fourway or rachet. however this will probably not work. you will probably need to go to a shop and have the stud replaced.
good luck

I didn't give enough info before, sorry. the lug nut backed off about a half inch before the stud started to spin. the wheel is still on my car, i am going to try to get a pair of vice grips between the wheel and rotor and clamp on the stud to see if that will hold it. yes i do have an air gun also. anybody have any good ideas i can try?

thanx

if you can't get it to catch by tightening it back down, you're going to have to cut the bitch off.

just replace the damn stud. only takes the attention span of a 4 year-old.

bang the stud out with a hammer, slide the new stud in through the hub with the new one, while the stud is loose in the hub, put the wheel on and take an air gun to the lug nut to pull the stud through the hub.

if that's to hard for you, take it somewhere and have them replace your wheel stud

I had the same problem on the front of my GSR.
The lug nut went about five turns while I was taking my wheel
off and then the stud started spinning with the lug nut.
There really isn't any way to grab hold of the stud from the front with the wheel
on there without damaging it, except to take the suspension apart as much as possible with the wheel on and either grab hold of the stud from behind
or drill the back of it off from behind and pull it out from the front.
Another way might be to cut it off from behind if you don't want to
destroy the wheel.

That is a difficult position to be in because I think the dust shield
sits behind the hub and makes it difficult to drill out the head of the stud.

You might have to do it yourself. I took mine to a suspension shop
and they wanted to destroy my very expensive white type R wheel
to get the stud out for mucho $$$.

I got it...with a dremel.. I cut the dust shield and ground down the hub a little to get the stud head to fit in.
