Help with suspension setup!
(Hopefully) The car will be Autocrossed once in a while, tracked, and dragged. Pretty much anything. But not too often..
I want to keep my suspension bill under $1000 for parts. I've had my mind set on Koni Yellows/Eibach Pro-Kits but should I change the Pro-kits for some coilovers instead?
What are the advantages/disadvantages of coilvers vs. springs. I don't really know the difference..
What coilovers work well with the Koni Yellows? I don't want a big drop, 1.5" would be great.
Thanks!

I love the Koni Yellows/Eibach Pro-Kits set-up on my car. Total drop probably came out to about an 1.5".
From what I've heard about coilovers you want to get good ones (which would be more costly that springs). Coilovers will allow you to fine tune your ride height (set up for different driving conditions) . IMO I dont see the need for that much adjustment on a daily driven vehicle..

Well I see you already have the ITR rear sway, plus brake upgrades. You should be able to get GC/Koni's w/ custom rates for around $850, or you could go with like H&R Sports (my setup) for less than $700. If I was autocrossing regularly (I don't, not regularly), I would probably want to go with some type of height adjustable setup.
I thought a full coilover system came with its own struts, as in you wouldn't get koni yellows with a coilover system. And spring would be the same thing as a coilover spring. I could be wrong though. Basically, are you asking if you should get a true coilover system, or a strut/coilover spring system (where the two are separate units). As far as the second system goes, i'm sure your first choice would be nice, Ground Controls are good springs as well.

If I were you, I'd spend the extra $100 or so and get Ground Control Coilovers. For one, I live in Utah and we have bad winters, so it's a plus because I can jack up each corner and raise my car to stock or higher height and then lower it for normal driving conditions. You can get that 1.5" drop you're looking for and more/less. Also, the other advantage is that you will be able to get custom Eibach spring rates. I bought regular springs with my Koni Yellows, but I realized I wanted the height (well the easy height) adjustability of the GC's. It's ultimately up to you and what you can afford, but I would recommend shelling out the extra money for the best. (Other than full coilover setups.)

Oooh, I like that whole 'jacking up the car for winter' thing...
Are Ground Control coilovers pretty much the standard 'best bang for the buck' coilover?

If I were racing I would get GC's but not in order to raise or lower the car for winter. Anytime you change the ride height the alignment (toe-in and camber) is affected, so you have to get an alignment each time. With coilovers I would set it at a height that suited me best, then fine-tune it w/ corner weights and leave it there.
I would have to get an alignment every time I adjusted the height?! That would suck..
Would I need a camber kit for the Koni/GC setup?
What about a Koni/Eibach setup?

I've had my car at stock/2" all around/1.5" in the front & 2" in the back/ etc, you get the point. To this day (possibly a bad thing) I have never had an alignment and my tread wear and camber is just as good as stock. If you are super worried find a quality shop that does liftetime alignments and you'll be set. BTW, there isn't really a best coilover (bang for your buck), but Ground Control seems lke the standard.

If you lower your car about 1.5" or so, you will have to worry about toe-in more so than camber. Camber won't be that much of a problem but if the toe-in is off the tires will wear all wierd. You might be able to extend the life somewhat by rotating every 3K-5K miles or so, but you really should get an alignment. If nothing else it will improve the day-to-day driveability and overall stability of the car (making it safer).
I really don't think I want to **** around with the Coilovers anymore.. I wouldn't want to adjust the height and then take care of the alignment, etc..
I think shocks/springs will be good enough for me. Everybody raves about Koni Yellows (Sports) but there seems to be more of a mixed opinion with the springs. What would be the best spring to buy?
H&R, Eibach..?

like said before, either the eibach's you had in mind, or the ground controls with custom spring rates ( you can call ground control, tell them what you have in mind and they can suggest spring rates for you ), would be a good bet. Other springs such as H & R are also excellent.
