help check engine light
My car is a 98 GSR with about 58,000 miles on it and is throwing a check engine light the code that popped up is a 45. I looked it up and it says something about the fuel system. The thing is that when I ride in the car sometimes it turns on and sometimes it turns off. My friend says it has something to do with the fuel o2 sensor Im not sure. I have emissions by the end of next month and I was wondering if I can just unplug the battery and take the emissions, can i still pass it?
Sometimes it turns off? Seems near impossible. OBDII stores the code and keeps the light on until it is cleared from the ECU.
And code 45 is System too rich, or system too lean. If it's too lean, sure, you'll prob. pass emissions, but you're risking the life of your engine. If it's too rich, you prob. won't pass emissions and will get worse than average fuel mileage.

the thing is how can i fix the check engine light replace my o2 sensor? my gas mileage is worser than before on a full tank i can get about 250 miles until my gas light comes on but my boy that has the same car can get over 350 miles. the check engine light does goes off when i turn the car off and turn it on. in about 5 minutes its off again and i ride for like 20 miles and it pops back on

actually not impossible. my g/f has a 98 prelude S and it throws the CEL intermittently. it will stay on for a couple of weeks and then turn off for the same amount of time.

hmm...never heard of that happening before. Shouldn't it still be stored in the ECU? And I don't know where you are from, but, is there a Prelude S in the states? I thought in 98 there was the base model and the SH, correct?
anyways, that's the first I've heard of the CEL coming on and shutting off in an OBDII car. Learn something new everyday.

sorry, i guess i meant base model. for some reason i always thought it was called the S. i guess i learned something new as well. i think the code is stored, but i don't notice any problems. i should prolly take it to the dealership to see what the hell is wrong with it.

Depends on what the error is.

Sometimes it will be a cylinder misfire or something like that and it will fix itself and shut the CEL off. I'm NOT speaking from my experiences with OBD-II hondas but OBD-II mustangs
