Hey guys, i have a 94 GSR and the heater core is leaking. Any Suggestions on how to fix the problem. Ofcourse, might have to move the whole dash. Any tips will do. Thnxz.

 

If the core is leaking, there's no getting around removing the dash.

 

wheres it leaking from! in the engine bay?

 

just loop the hoses..unless you need heat..then you have to pull the dash

 

its leaking from the passenger side inside the car...i checked the engine bay already, no leaks from there.

 

i bought the car like that and i dont really see ani hose underneath the dash so ughhh.....maybe i mite need a new hose...

 

I think he meant looping the hose that feeds coolant to inside the car and the return line. No coolant cycling in the core means nothing to leak inside the car.

 

you have to pull the dash, the heat vents and drop the steering column. it's a similar amount of work to pulling an engine. maybe slightly more. i did one on my old integra. the core is like 30 bucks on rock auto but the install takes awhile. it's not really a hard job, just time consuming.

till you fix it locate the two ports on the engine bay firewall that feed it and connect the two lines so you bypass the core.

you won't have heat but it will stop the coolant leak in your interior

i'm not surprised that someone would sell the car rather than fix this.

i would imagine that shops would want around 800-1000 to fix this

 

Ditto the above^^^ a dash pull is needed and a heater box removal, a heater box "split", to replace the heater core.

As mentioned, not that hard, just time consuming, if you know what you are doing the dash can be pulled in about 1hr, [all the way out of the car] with hand tools, [no air/power tools] it is more like 2.5hr.

Also as mentioned, loop the heater hoses to take the heater core out of the loop, so your not leaking coolant into the car.


This is also a good time to do anything else behind the dash, replacing damaged dash harness, a stealth alarm install, definatly make a list of anything that is wrong and may be repaired while dash is off. 94
