Default Head Gasket Issues

I made a thread recently about my cylinder misfire issues and thought it was in need of a tune up so I did the tune up and decided to also change my timing belt + water pump while I had the engine apart. My engine is still in my garage and saw one of my cylinders was low and saw on Team Integra that cylinder misfire is usually a cause of a head gasket leak so I decided to replace it also and ordered the OEM gasket which I should get in sometime this week did anyone ever do a DIY head gasket change on a Integra? Any pics of suggestions? How hard was it and how long did it take.

Cliffs: Anyone do a DIY head gasket change, how hard was it and how long did it take?

Thanks!

have not seen too many blown headgaskets on the integra. misfire may be caused by low comp or a bent valve. doing a headgasket takes about 2-3hrs.

If you know the basic valves adjustment, installing cams, exhaust, and etc with tools then you could do it. Not that hard at all, but I would advice you use a helm manual to guide ya. Difficulty of 7 out of 10. Peash out.

Well the reason I think its my head gasket is because even when the engine is cold I am getting an "artifical boil" in my overflow tank and I am loosing coolant. The engine misfires on start up once warm its not bad.. I do not see coolant on the ground anywere nor do I see any hoses broken. What ya think>?

need to do a leak down test..that will tell you whether the headgasket is bad or if you have bent valves....its the best way to tell for sure...

Leak down test includes me getting a compression testing tool @ Sears right? I have seen them there for like 39.99 its Craftsman brand. I have a CEL Code 72, 73,74 (Cylinder 2, 3, 4 misfire) Upon starting it starts having a rough idle and a little tap of the gas fixes it. If I attempt to drive away without letting the engine warm up a bit I have basically no power and feel the misfires happening. I am loosing coolant (I dont see coolant anywere on the floor or anywere else so I am assuming that my HG is bad and is leaking coolant into my cylinders causing the misfires. I will head over to Sears tomorrow and get the kit and pull my spark plugs and wires and do the test. What do you guys think it is? Water Pump leak + the need of a tune up maybe or the head gasket? Thanks!

Also when I was in the garage I started the engine and the engine was cold I saw bubbles forming in the overflow tank. Oil is nice no milky look and coolant is green no oily build up.

Once I get low on coolant I begin to over heat when I am in slow moving traffic but once I am moving the engine cools down.

I have done a few head gasket swaps. On my teg, my 94 accord, and on a 92 Civic.

It's pretty straight foward and it sounds like you're experienced with cars so you should no have much trouble. You'll need to buy a head gasket scraper to remove the old gasket then just throw the new one on.

The only sucky part is dealing with the timing belt but other than that, it's easy.

Headgasket replacement is easy and straightforward. The only troublesome part for beginners is making sure the cam timing is correct upon reassembly.

Well as far as handling the timing issue is that I am going to install the HG then do my timing and water pump replacement and finally do the tune up so it shouldn't be too bad. Thanks!

Welll I checked my compression was running 175 across the board and its running strong after figuring out my coolant leak was my heater hose and it was such a tiny pinhole leak(thank god it wasn't a head gasket). My misfires stopped too since I changed my wires + plugs, the plugs were rusted and crappy!

Thanks!
