guide for installing cams.
how does one know when installing cams that the the right lobes are facing the right direction? the intake cam has a notch on the distributor side but what about the exhaust cam? i have a vague idea with having the engine at TDC and just using that as guidance to make sure the cams are put on correctly but can someone elaborate or explain how to do it correctly?
one last thing, is a timing gun necessary for cam installation, to check timing, since the timing belt is slipped off?

when you put on the cam gears it will let you know where tdc is.
no. just use some whiteout or paint.... Set the crank to tdc then make marks on the belt to reference from when you put it back on. I made two marks on the tbelt teeth before and after the outside dots on each gear. When I put the new gears on i just made sure the two white marks on the belt on each side went between the dots. This takes out any guesswork of any kind.

nice ill give that a try. since the cam gears have a key in it that corresponds to the cams, can i just use this as reference to make sure its on right? like cams inserted in interlocked with the key and install it with the arrow pointing up?
