Default GSR or not?

Probly a stupid question but its got me confused. I just got a 96 integra. on the rear of the car it says it has the DOHC Vtec which would make it 170 horsepower instead ot the 140 on the LS and RS but it doesnt say VTEC on the engine like in my other acuras. The vtec was only offered on the GSR model in 96 to my knowledge but also i cant hear the vtec in the high rpms like i can with my other acuras. how can i tell if this is a true 96 vtec GTR or an LS with just a fake DOHC Vtec marking or did they offer an LS Vtec?

if it doesn't say VTEC on the motor...it's an LS motor...and you probably got scammed if you bought it thinking it was a GSR.

I don't want to explain the 150,000,000 ways to tell if its a gs-r but you can tell by the block casting number(where the block mates to the transmission). It will say B18C1 if it is a gs-r, B18B is its an LS. You should just take a picture and post it and we'll tell you if its a gs-r or not(or at least vtec). You probably don't know how to identify if it has a vtec solenoid or not.

EDIT--- That would be the vtec soleniod to look for

if the guy cant even tell if he has a genuine VTEC motor how do you want him to find the VTEC solenoid from that little picture that shows no orientation in the engine bay.

Check your block, b18c1 should be engraved, tach should read redline at 8100, should say VTEC on the valve cover, or yes look for the vtec solenoid which looks like that, If your looking at the engine its to the left of the valve cover at the end of the cam shafts.

Does your VIN start with JH4DC2 (2-door GSR) or JH4DB8 (4-door GSR)?
