gear ratios confusion, is shorter always better
ive herd tat longer gear ratios are good, but at the same time ive herd tat long gears are good. i was told by a friend tat for drag racing longer gears r good, but i was also told tat short gears r always better. now in super street one of their projects, project back out, they are rebuilding a ys1 tranny with a 4.40 final drive ratio for reasons tat chimpy is choosing to keep secret. why? wats so good bout the ratios of this tranny? hes tryin to build a b20 n boost it to 400whp why dis tranny?

to much to explain but in a nut shell shorter gears and higher finals equals more torque in within a range, TROQUE MULTIPILCATION FACTOR all depends on your application

for most honda low power output applications shorter is better, but in reality you want the gears best suited for your engine output. A stock LS tranny is gear a lot higher then a GSR because it makes it's torque and HP a lot earlier, that's why it's best suited for it. What's your application, maybe we can help out.....y0
