Default Field vtec controller: reliable?

I need a vtec controller and am considering getting a Field unit (used). I realize it doesn't allow as much tuning flexibility as the Apexi, but for those of you who have used it, has it been reliable? Do you get a lot of "check engine" and other warnings/interference? Thanks for any input.

Never had a problem when I had mine. I had to get the apexi though because the field wasn't flexible enough.

Yea its reliable. NO CEL's when I had it..Provided its wired correctly you shouldn't have any problems whatsoever. The only problem I can foresee is if you have ob2

I only have one problem with it... When i turn it on for a certain amount of time, it bogs at 6500 rpm.. i dont know whats wrong with it.. i think it cuts the fuel off around 6500 if u leave it on for a long time.. a friend of mine is experiencing the same problem.. any theories or suggestions??

I had one, but someone stole it and mangled the wire harness. I ended up getting the VAFC. Some people (SGT) don't like the VAFC and prefer the Field. Mine worked great for me, but I do know one other who had problems with his Field. This may have been because it was a 98 OBDII vs my 95.

I miss the shift beep on the Field, but the VAFC is more flexible and mine is reliable so far.

If anyone is interested in my Field, they can have it dirt cheap, but they will need to solder the wire harness.

Thanks,

Berkel: I just spent more $$ than I care to think about on a new Fluidyne radiator so I do need bargains right now. Let me know. do I need to find a new harness? I'm confused, I thought they stole yours.

BTW my email is not working so IM any replies to me. Thanks

Are you trying to put the hammer on me???? YOU!

I SAID "I miss the shift BEEP," you can set the Field to beep at a particular RPM. I used to set it for 8000 so I wouldn't have to watch the tach when autoxing. I would just keep it floored, watch the course, then shift when I hear the beep. Comprendes?

Oh,

Haven't read the VAFC directions that carefully, maybe it has the same feature?

Vitt, let me know when you get it and that it works, ok?

Thanks,

Can you set the fields to run different modes, ex) all motor mode vs. nitrous mode? I dont' want as much fuel up high in my all motor mode as I do in my nitrous mode, you know what I mean. So with a push of a button, can I swithc modes?

The VAFC doesn't have the shift beep feature I like it better for tuning though. The unmatched VTEC fuel correction is sweet.

I'll keep you posted Berkel, I'm sure it'll work but it will be a while before I get around to soldering and installing. Have to get my cams installed first

That Portflow P&P, is that Portflow out here in SoCal? Are you happy with the job?

Yeah,

I think they're in SoCal? They did a nice job on the head

I'll let you know what the dyno says...

Take care,
