OK i just got my teg back from a head gasket. I had the water pump and timing belt changed also. I drove it approx. 500 miles give or take back and forth to work. On my way to work leaving a stop light under acceleration i started hearing tapping from the engine. I stopped to check it out, oil level was fine, it sounds like its right under the valve cover, i adjusted the valves to spec, but it still taps. It seems to be coming from distributor side of the cover, ive heard honda distributors sometimes tap when going bad. Just trying to get an opinion before i get pissed off. Thanks for the help

 

Was the engine cold when you performed the valve adjustment?

 

yea it was cold

 

was this your first time doing a valve adjustmeant or no. Also is it possibly its your injectors mine are loud as hell.

 

Well i just got it back from having the head gasket replaced about 2 weeks before it started making this noise. I put a stethoscope on it the other day and im begining to believe it is the distributor because it is loud as hell. It sounds like metal on metal grinding and beating around. In a sense and no slur intened but it sounds like 100 little mexicans with tiny hammers lol.
