My engine is making some weird knocking sound, especially after a cold start. After it warms up, it quiets down a little. It sounds like i'm driving a diesel engine.??? I dunno what could be wrong. It started to happen after I got my timing belt changed. Some one told me all i needed was a valve adjustment. Any suggestions? Thanks

i think u are describing the same thing that my car does, and yea, it is just a combination of the valves and the distributor. Get a new distributor, or get your valves adjusted. But yours is probably just in need of valve adjustment. later

 

yeah, thanks for the reply. I just got the msd distributer put in a few weeks ago, so it can't be that. I'm gonna get my timing job done this saturday. BTW, does your car still do that knocking noise, or did you fix it already?

 

yea mine still does it, i might get a vavle adjustment or have my distributor checked out, but supposedly all the new gsr distributors make alot of noise. Anyways, i will let u know when i fix the problem. did u like the MSD distributor,notice any gains?

 

I didn't notice any considerable gains but it is a wise investment. That and a new msd coil. I hear the stock coils on any honda is pretty crappy. Plus the coil and distrubutor is pretty cheap. Also, it leaves you an option to uprgrade your ignition with a MSD 6AL. I say get the cap and coil. Plus the distributor looks kewl

 

Yea it soulds like you may be in need of a valve adjustment. Your Honda dealer can do it in about an hour for $50. Its easy to do yourself also. On the inside of your hood is a sticker with some adjustments. All you need is a phillips screwdriver and a good set of feeler gauges to adjust the gap. If you don't know how to do it I suggest going to the dealer do get it done.

could be piston slap, that means the pistons slap the cylinders until they heat up and seat in right. my 89 prelude does it, once it's warm the motor is buttery smooth. until the timing belt broke that is!
