What should i check when your engine light comes on? i was just driving and it came on last night, but i dont see or feel any problems.

humm same thing happened to me a month ago and i left it for a week and then it shut off on its own.... who knows..my car was runing fine to at the time.

 

ok i checked it out and it blink to be 67..so its

Catalyst system Efficiency Below Threshold malfunctioning or defective catalyst system

what does this mean? do i need a new cat?

is this something that need immediate attention?

Did you by any chance gut the cat or remove it altogether and replaced it with a test pipe? If not, reset the ecu and see does it come back. Also did you or someone else worked underneath the car recently? Its possible that one of the two o2 sensor's connector came loose. Also do you smell sulfur? I heard its a sign of a bad cat. If none of those work, and you still throw the same code then you might need a new cat. But its hard to believe that a cat will go bad on a 97 unless you modified the car and didn't tune it correctly.

 

no its the original cat untouched. i havent work on the bottom of the car for a while now and it just came on when i was driving yesterday.

so is it for sure the cat? how much would a new cat run me?

also is it safe to drive for now?

 

97 gsr check your o2 sensor, sensor plug, sensor if be.

Sounds like either something is disconnected or cut, or the sensor has failed

 

I believe if you throw a cel light, you car will run in a limp mode to protect it. So no Vtec. Reset the Ecu and see if it returns.

I only ask because there was a waranty notice I got about 2 months ago, letting me know that the cat was warantied by acura for 150k miles. I don't have the piece of paper in front of me, but you should go into your dealer and ask what it is for.
