does a carbon hood really make a diffrence
true. take a HUGE dump.
the c/f is mostly show... although look at some accident pics, broken c/f hoods are kinda rare... they splinter instead of crumble, or dont break at all

and another question why do kids rip out there insides to save weight i mean it ends up only being about 100lbs at most and they barely gain any time after all.
Why praytell Why?

I have a No Fat Chicks sign on the side of my car...thats rule 1.
But seriously...when the fam (wife and 2 kids) is in the car...I notice that I pick up slower..not alot but I notice..I think my exhaust gets a lil louder too..

exhaust louder = pushing the car harder.
god i want a sign like that. man girls will think i'm soo ******* shallow but hell, those chicks makes my girl work harder. But if you think ppl ripping out their inside to save a 100, when cf hood saves you like 30 pounds i heard. it's a good investment i think. But then again you have to take care of it to make sure it doesn't fade or anything. My dad told me that cf is really delicate and closing a cf hood hard will shatter it....i think he's wrong because I heard a story where a guy got in a front end collision and the hood just bent and flew back and chopped off his head, really makes you uneasy.

CF hood will help on the weight for sure and stripping the inside does help if you are trying to get down the track with the best ET time the car can do.

That's exactly why I didn't get a CF hood!!! I had nightmares after I heard that story!!!

Personally i think a carbon Fiber trunk makes more of a difference.. particularly on Tegs... our rear hatch is pretty heavy... and if you put in lexan windows... wow.. you remove a good amount of weight from the best place to remove weight.

i think they are mostly for show, and if you're hardcore into weight reduction, that's def not the first thing i'd do. think about it, you could buy a cf hood for 350+ and save 30 lbs., or you could rip a bunch of **** out of your car for free and save at least 70+, but even doing both, 100lbs, is only gonna take off .1 at the track.
btw dres, all gsrs have ac (your sig)

I have a c'f hood purely for show and i got it at a reasonable price...it is considerably lighter than the OE hood, i'd say about a quarter of the weight, but even if it was the same weight or even slightly heavier i would have put it on!

Yea, removing a considerable amnt of weight from the rear of a heavily front biased FF car is a good thing. Maybe for drag racing, for anything else it sucks.
CF hoods are also worthless on a daily driver. You WILL NOT in a million years FEEL the difference from behind the wheel. The biggest differences you will notice are the bigger gaps around the hood, it will be lighter when you open it, and it will be a different color than the rest of the car.
I have a CF hood on my car, but it was because mine was being replaced by insurance and it cost me the same to buy a cf hood and have it painted as it would to get another stock one.

i like carbon fiber hoods for these main reasons:
1. it does save weight
2. it looks good (even better if it isn't the common fad)
3. it can be taken off easy with one person to work on your engine
4. because it is so light, when you reinstall it, it is much harder to damage the paint on your fenders
5. one less thing to worry about painting
6. less underhood heat
7. no worries about dents
if you got the extra dough, i think it is worth it. also when you do strip a good 100+ lbs off your car, it's not all about your quarter mile. 1 tenth of a second off your quarter may not seem like much, but if this is your daily driver, imagine how much gas you will save. it does add up. general rule of thumb is 1 hp gain for about every 18 lbs of weight reduction. did you know that you could gain 5+ hp just between the difference of a gallon of gas or a full tank in a civic. i always fill my tank up with $5.00 to $10.00 worth of gas. not only because of weight, but i get frustrated dishing out $30 or so per fill. also, i'm poor and it seems like i gun it less with less gas. i'm sure i'm not the only one out there. check out this site for more info fools.

i don't have a CF hood on my honda yet (they don't make one) but on my MX-6 i have one. the stock hood weighs 89 lbs (!!!) and my CF one weighs 11. huge difference.
plus, i think it just looks sexy. (on the hood. i hate it on the fenders. paint that ****!)

take the engine out and throw the fat bich in the engine bay with a roast.. strap the b18 in the passanger seat, give him a cold beer, and have him relax.. haha
what about the CF trunk lid? would that save you as much or more than the CF hood would?
anyone know the total savings with a cf hood and cf trunk installed?

if i had one, i'd paint it before ever installing it. but the only reason i will EVER change my hood out is for a reverse scoop. and the accompanying aero cues under the car and on the radiator and such. i'm an aerodynamics ***** as well as weight *****. but aero eats a shitload more HP than weight. as for stripping your car, i don't know if that thread about chassis weights is right, but if it is, my car is 275lbs lighter than stock and still has a/c and full front interior and an engine, too! and sunroof. i don't think that thread is right, 120lbs of weight reduction sounds right. it's the feel of the car, mostly. also, most of the weight reduction was the rear of the car, meaning that the rear will be much more capable of following the front as needed. i'm waiting for Function-7 to finish their front lower control arms. unlike competition engineering's ones, they will use bushings instead of heim joints, and so will be perfect for street cars. minus 60lbs of nose weight, and a large portion of it is unsprung weight! makes me giddy like a schoolboy . . .
allright, nice novel. i'm out like a fat kid in dodgeball.
