You can rent one from kragen. I think all they need is a deposit, and they give give it back when you return it.

Otherwise I'd use cinderblocks(sp?). One against the wall, and one behind it. Have someone step on the spring and rear block while its being loosened. I needed the top hats for my coilovers this week and me and my friend did it that way.

have a friend with you, have him step on the strut, do not place your fingers on the springs when you are about to take off the top hat. take a backpack/gym bag, place the front of the strut in there with the top hat. loosen the top hat while the strut is in there and it will pop into the bag with all your bolts :]

I would just go rent a compressor. It'll make the project go A LOT faster and you won't have to worry about car parts flying around your garage

i would advise you not to try it without a compresser, you could end up in the hospital...go on ebay theres spring compressers on there for like $15

dont be scared ..loosen it slowly..face the strut end towards a wall or something and put a heavy box on the other..ghetto style
