Default Distributor problem!!

Ok, so let me give you a run down of what happened.....my car overheated a while back due to an f'ed up thermostat. I replaced it and the car was fine.....after a while my resivour tank got a hole in it draining all my coolant. So i overheated again....... soon after fixing that my distributor took a ****....... The car wouldn't rev over 3500rpm's. The shaft inside the distributor was all f'ed up. To get to the point i tried replacing the distrubutor but now my car turns on but at like 200rpm's and then bogs out if i give it gas......... the only way i got my car to run was with a single cam distributor. Any suggestions????

Car: '95 Integra with ls/vtec.

So question..... if my timing were to be messed up, why does it turn on with a single cam distributor?
