Differences between GS and GSR???
Alright I'm posting this for a friend.
She just purchased a 97 Integra GSR or at least that's what the dealership told her, and some people have been saying it doesn't seem to be a GSR. What differences are their between the 2? I know they have different engine types I think her's is B18**, but I can't remember the last 2 numbers. Can anyone help on this? I just want to set her straight on this so if anyone can give me physical differences I would appreciate it. Peace.

GS has B18B engine. Car redlines at like 7200 or something.
GSR has B18C1. It should also say DOHC VTEC on the valve cover. CAr shouldn't redline until 8100

The most important difference is the engine. The GS has a B18B non-VTEC engine while the GS-R has the B18C1 w/ VTEC. Checking the block stamp for the engine code is a sure and easy way to tell which engine the car has. Should be hard to miss the DOHC VTEC lettering on the valve cover too

i think they might have different wheels. i have a 98 gs and the wheels ale like multi spoked almost and the gsr's ive seen (maybe just the newer ones though) have the knife lookin wheels. but both have leather and all the goodies. its pretty obvious if you look at the tach or the vavle cover though like these guys already said.

Re: Differences between GS and GSR??? (skafia)
GSR also gets a front upper strut bar, and a rear sway bar. I am not sure, but I think there is a front sway bar (small one) and also the brakes are larger, but I cannot confirm that. You cannot tell just from looking at wheels if it is a GSR, many people change those out. The intake maifold is also a slightly different design, but unless you are looking at them side by side or are really familar with the cars you will be hard pressed to tell. But the redline, and the engine stamp are the most reliable ways to tell (btw look to the left of where the oil stick is to see the place where the engine stamp is. Oh, just remembered, if it is a gsr with a wing, and is a 2 door, it will not have the third brake light in the rear window, only the led on the wing....

The only difference in the GS and GSR is the engine everything else is the same, suspension, tires, exhaust, etc

Uhm.... LS and Special Editions are actually two different models. They both are non vtec, but special edition comes with leather, sunroof...etc that is not offered in the LS.
Special Edition's (SE) were not discontinued, but actually changed to what we know as GS. Basically, SE=GS.

The major difference is the engine/trans. As for the rest of the car, I think the GSR uses slightly larger sway bars, but the brakes are identical, with the possible exception of ABS. Interior trim levels will differ too.
