Default DA project engine help

I will have pics up when the car is cleaned. Just bought it on Friday. Got rid of my Auto DC4. I never thought it would be so hard to say goodbye to her.

Anyways

I for the first time have no idea what to do with this car. I love the body style and I am going for making this a very clean DD. Now, The problem is I don't want to go Turbo and I love how much fun Hondas are to drive. There is the age old question GSR vs LS VTEC. but I was reading in Honda Tuning that there isn't much you can do to a VTEC engine to make good power using all motor.

So my question is..... Do I go with an already powerful motor and try to make it stronger or do I just get a cheaper engine and try to slam it. Like I said I just want a Clean DA that is fun to drive. (oh and I don't drag....Corners > Straights(Thanks Matt.)) What are you guys doing for power gains that don't include Turbo. I am not a professional mechanic and all I can think of doing is asking people online that have been doing this for a while.

My main goal is fun with a good motor. I'm not really trying to make a lot of power I just want a fun car. I love Forced induction cars and I think they are fast as hell. I'm just not big in racing anymore. just more about the nice drive on the coast touge style but within reason and without forced induction. I am in a 1990 and I just read a strange article about how torque is more important than HP but It is better to make torque at high rpm than at low rpm, because you can take advantage of gearing. now deos this mean that the h22a would be better than the k20a2? and would the b16b compaire?

Civic Type R 1.6 185 @ 8200 118 @ 7500 10.8:1

Type-R B18C5 1.8 195 @ 8000 130 @ 7000 10.6:1

Prelude H22A JDM 220 @ 7200 163 @ 6500 11:1

GSR B18C1 1.8 170 @ 7600 128 @ 6200 10.0:1

RSX Type-S K20A2 2.0 200 @ 7400 142 @ 6000 11.0:1

now given that I will not be using f/i how would you figure this out? the b16b revs higher giving you more opportunity for torque gearing but the H22A maxs at 163 @ 6500. More torque, Less revs but more than the k20a2. Does using a high final drive on the b16b compaire? I need help I know. What are some of the things you guys have done?
