Cooling problem v2
Well last week I figured out my coolant leak was coming from my heater hose and that fixed my coolant loss and now the issue is that when @ idle the temp begins to creep up but once @ driving speeds iit drops to normal center temp marking.. could it be the thermostat or the fans?
Thanks!
Thanks!
If the car doesnt overheat while you are moving but does while you are stopped its more than likley the cooling fan. Check for air bubbles in your cooling system too.
If it is infact the fan hardwire it to the battery with a switch inbetween the two so you can just flip the fan on at lesiure. If the fan motor itself is bad this wont work.

its ur fans..
a car rely's on "splash lubrication" to keep engine temperatures low.. the only problem is, when your car is at idle.. the engine isn't spinning fast enough to splash lubricate your internal components like it should be at higher RPMS.. this is why most cars have a cooling fan.
have you noticed that when u let a car idle for too long.. the fan turns on? well this is because the temperature gets soo hot that it tells ur fans to cool it off.. if your fans arent working, then you WILL have this problem.. so check your fans dude.

Considering your in NY where it is very cold right now, i doubt it is your fans. I know even when I beat the crap out of my 95 teg the fans don't come on at all unless it is above 70 degrees outside at the least. I would bleed the system of air before doing anything else...it could be an air pocket in your system making it so the fluid can't flow properly. After you do that change your thermostat to be sure that isn't messing with it somehow. After that i'd assume you have a clogged radiator, if the fluid was or is real dirty that could easily be it and then it would make it so the radiator is not effiecient enough at a stop but once air is going through it, it is. Then again your fans should come on b/f the car gets up to past the center point, but w/the kinds of temps it is now, the gauge shouldnt need the help of fans to stay that low.
check your fan relays or fuses and that should be it. if not den your coolant sensor might be faulty !!!!!

So to bleed the system just run it w/o the radiator cap on till I reach operating temp then finally refill w/ needed coolant? Its 6*F in NY so I will run it in my garage w/ a heater facing the car (with the door open of course don't wanna die of carbon monoxide)
Is that OK?

That will probably work. Thing is there is no way at idle your going to get it to full operating temp...I had my 95 teg idling for an hour and it never got past 1/4 on the temp gauge with me revving the thing every few minutes. But if you just let it warm up until the t-stat opens that should be long enough to get the air out. If you have an obd1 teg you should have a bleed screw at where the top hose connect to the head, use that to bleed it also, i know a few bubbles came out of mine.
