Default Cooling Problem

I have a problem with my teggy...

This is whats wrong...

when the car gets up to standard operating temp and i stop at a light or something the temp gauge starts going up towards the H. But if i stay still and step on the gas till like 3k rpm the gauge goes back to normal. The gauge also stays at NOT when i am driving. i guess thats because there is air going through. Anyone knows whats wrong? is there a bad sensor that is making this happen?

-Check your fan switch. May not be turning the fans while you're at a stop.

-Check your thermostat. May be stuck closed at times, or just malfunctioning.

-Make sure the fans work as well. Fan switch may be good, but fan may not.

-If your water pump and timing belt have not been changed, look into it.

Are you loosing any coolant? Is your overflow bottle filling up??

My overflow bottle was empty when i checked it yesterday, I think it might be a sensor or something. The car isn't leaking any coolant to my knowlage. Does anyone know where the fan switch is or where the thermostat is? anyone have pics?

Sure, it could be a ect sensor. THat is found on the head of the motor. The connector should be a 2 pin snap in stlye. But I dont think they go out all too often. I have 292,000 miles on my GSR and never changed it once.

The fact that you had an empty overflow bottle gives reason to believe that there is a leak somewhere. I mean, if there wasn't, where did the water go???

Well i filled the overflow bottle yesterday all the way to the top and now that i checked it today its almost empty. its like 1/4th of the way full. i have a big feeling its the sensor because the fans only turn on when i turn the a/c on.

if you have a service manual...there are values for that sensor and you can check them with a multimeter. I do not know them off the top of my head.

Well the coolant has to be going somewhere. check the bottle at the bottom and see if it is leaking, mine was when it was full, ie. hot, but not when cold, the slits had cut into the bottle.

Try the radiator cap, bleed the system, might just have air in it.

I had a similar problem with my 92 Integra several years ago. A pinhole leak had formed in the top plastic of the radiator. Leaking antifreeze was not apparent, but steam must of escaped when I drove, and the system was not pressurizing as it should. Gauge would indicate hot when idling at a light, but not if I revved the engine or was moving more than 30 MPH. Fans were not running any more than normal. This is because the sensor for the gauge and switch for the fan are located at different spots on the engine.

u could have a small leak in your headgasket leaking into your pistons. ( that would cause reduction in pressure & slow down in flow) i was going down the freeway & it just blew. also your water pump could be no good also. i just bought a new motor & tranny & did a conversion.
