Default constant backfiring

damn it. my DA is coughing (suffering from constant backfire)... and when it does, my check engine light goes on... i feel like i got it from having custom 2.5 piping... and it's not stainless steel... i'm gonna try and change the piping to stainless steel and see if this problem occurs.. but has this ever happen to anyone else? what'd you do to stop it (if you did have it) ??

Check your vacum at idle it is not steady try to do a valve adjust on it.

Dude, That definatly sounds like a vac leak. Is the idle loping reallt bad or only 200-500 rpms?

what kind of ecu do you have? I know that if you have standalone it might not be tuned right or running really rich.

the idling goes from 500-1500 and does that every time i drive... and i think i might not be running rich bkuz i'm only putting 89... gas is still expensive... and it still gets me by... but maybe thats it... i'll get 91 next time i hit the 76 gas station.

Check the code and go from there. I don't believe going from mild steel to a stainless steel exhaust will resolve your problem.

Backfiring may be from your spark plug wires, or spark plugs. Maybe the person who installed the wires last put #2 wire into the #3 spark plug, or the other way around. Check the wires and your plugs. Hope everything works out good...

hmm...To me it sounds like a timing problem. Either its too advanced, too retarded, or the cams are off a tooth or something. Have access to a timing light? wouldnt hurt to check that
