Default Compression

I am buying a 1997 gsr motor and the compression is 180dry, and 210wet. What is the difference between the two, and what should a good compression be for this motor? I am getting it tested in the morning and need to know what to look for. Thanks in advance James

really? I thought most GSR owners are reporting 210-215 dry, consistent across all the cylinders? I did a test a few weeks ago, got something like 185, 180, 155, 160 for my dry test, then 210's with a wet test. Helloooooooooo new piston rings?

correct me if I'm wrong, but a dry test = just a normal compression test, and a wet test = adding a capful of oil into the cylinder before you do a compression test? Something about sealing the piston rings temporarily if they're worn?

Same.

220psi all across on mine with 75k miles

220psi all across on my friend's GS-R with 98k miles

Both were warm and followed proper standardized compression test procedure with a Sears Craftsman gauge.
