that wont "manually turn it off" ... that only resets the ODB test, the light will come back on after the diagnostics are finished... ~50 miles. And you cant just turn that light off...

you CAN just turn it off. i just did it. you turn the key to accessory then take out the backup fuse under the hood in the small fuse box near the battery. a 7.5 amp fuse. turn the car off. put the fuse back in. all done.

why would you want to turn it off that way?? don't you know it means something is wrong and that you're ignoring the problem, potentially making it worse?
however if you know why it's on, and the reason doesn't really matter to you, having no bulb will tell you as much as having a bulb since neither will give you NEW reminders. And since the CEL on is annoying, I'd take out the bulb and just check the code(s) every now and then.

that's great, until you have another problem come up, and then you have no easy way to figure it out.
do you really want to be running low on oil for whatever interval you use between randomly checking codes?

I don't think it does.

he said that it would not give a "NEW" warning, if your light is on and you know why, what happens if it throws another code? nothing. you wont know unless you check it every once and a while anyway, so just take the bulb out it will get the light off and have no unsidirable effect IF you have a code on and dont care about it. but if you didnt have a code on why would you wanna turn it off?

You people a ******* stupid, just take it to a garage and have them turn the light off. If you fixed to problem, any garage will turn the light off for free. All they need is a scan tool.....If the garge does emission testing, the emission machine has an obd2 diagnostic mode that can turn off the light too....this may take 10 minutes at the most.....problem solved.
yea but (correct me if im wrong Sickofitall1113) i dont think hes fixed the problem, he just wants to turn off the light. hence the ensuing argument. and calling people ******* stupid probably isnt the best way to get them to realize they are doing something wrong, or to take your advice for that matter.

Hahahaha.

Gives instuctions on how to check the code. Codes link are at the bottom of the text. Figure out what CEL your throwing then fix it. Reset your ECU and after it's done with the diagnostics test in 50 miles the light should be out of your life. For now that is.
