Default Cel code 8 1995 gsr

SO i recently picked up a 1995 intergra gsr with a jdm gsr swap from hmo. WHen i bought the car it didnt have a check engine bulb and when i finally got around to replace it, i found out that is was throwing cel code 8 which is a TDC sensor. WHat could be the reason for this code? Ive read around a little bit and some say it is distributor related but i dont want to jump to conclusions. Its a 1995 gsr, im not sure what year the engine even is. Is there a way to finds out? Is there a way to tell if the motor is obdi or obdii? Thanks for your help

look at the casting marks on the head right above the #4 exhaust port.

since the part cannot be bought to fix a code 8, replacing the distributor is usually the only fix.

I havent tested the ohms like it said in the manual but i did find out that my engine is a 1996 gsr and its running on the original obd1 ecu? Could that be the reason for throwing cel code 8? Thanks, any help is appreciated.

So ive read through many threads about this exact problem and heard of a bunch of ways to make this work, but i want the simplest way/answer. My engine is a 1996 jdm and the car is a 1995 usdm gsr. It is still running on the stock 1995 (obd1) engine harness. I think the person before me just slapped on the obd1 distributor. Should i be looking to replace the whole engine harness with an obd2 or is there a simpler way to do this? The car runs fine but the timing on the distributor is max out fully retarded and it takes a while to start usually. Still getting cel code 8, any help is appreciated HT.

Start by making your car to TDC then check your dizzy the rotor should be facing the number 1 piston. If not adjust it. Then go from there.

I haent tried this yet, but i will within the next few days. But mi wanted to add that i bought a different distributor to see if that was the problem, but the ode is still there.

Here is a little update though:

Okay I’m posting again hoping that someone can help me out. Ive been trying to get rid of cel 8 (TDC Sensor). Ive followed the instructions on THIS thread.

I have continuity between the two wires in the distributor harness, but I just found out today that I don’t have continuity from those 2 wires going to the ecu. On the service manual instructions it says that there is an "open in the indicated sensor wires", then it says "see table". What table are they talking about? I have no clue where start but I am comfortable using a multimeter and am determined to fix the problem. Any help is appreciated, thanks. I just want to know what the next step should be.
