I got a CEL code 21 for my integra 92-93 which is the vtec solenoid. My engine is leaking where the vtec solenoid connects to the head. My question is "Would this be the cause of why the check engine light is on? because each time I go over 5000 rpm the CEL comes on. I check the wires and they are connected and good to go. I heard you could test to see if your vtec solenoid is working by connecting the vtec ground to the negative battery, is that true?

Seems to me this should be your first priority. Maybe it just needs a new gasket.

Fix the leak, clear the code and then see if it comes back.
