Default A/C Question

Well its kinda a will it work, or is this the problem kind of thing, but here is my problem.

I have a 97 LS 4 door and the A/C does not work. I have checked the freon and its good, well in the green on the gauge i have. The compressor does kick on so i don't think it is that. But this is where my trouble shooting skills kick in.

My vents always blow hot air..... always, unless i put the switch on recirculate and then it stops. When i move the selector from hot to cold it seems like its either not going or getting stuck. I already checked the cables that are under the dash on the passengers side that open and close the flap to the heater core and they are connected to the levers so they are good.

So my question is can the actually flapper be stuck or broke that covers the heater core? If so will i have to swap out that whole part including heater core? And will one from a 94 coupe fit? The reason i ask cause when i did this on my 91 240SX i put in a Heater core and the box thing it fits into from a 92 240SX coupe and they were totally different and it didn't work out.

So before i go Stripping my 94 GSR shell for the Heater core and box will it work and maybe fix the problem? Any help would be good

Thanks

it sounds like you have a stuck expansion valve / oriface tube. some companies like ford call it an oriface tube, others call it an expansion valve. sadly i'm a honda tech and i dont recall what they call it LOL. i hate dealing with AC stuff. but you will have to have a service shop look it over. sounds like youre not getting the refrigerant circulating. the receiver dryer may be full of moisture and not allowing the compressor to circulate because doing so would damage the compressor. yes some compressors have sensors for this. there is also an ambient temperature switch that may be keeping the refrigerant from circulating because its broken or damaged. its on or near the condensers side and can be damaged by falling tools if youre working around there. sounds like a simple diagnosis and repair is needed and shouldnt cost too much.

So what about the temp selector ****? Why does it seem like it wont go all the way over? On my civic it would almost click at the different temps. This one I have to like, shove, then it stops and about 3/4 of an inch away from all the way cold setting. Money is kinda a big issue since I am broke and it is hot down here in Texas. I do have a 94 shell for parts and would hate to bring it somewhere pay 80 bucks and them be like I can fix it for 500 more bucks. I hate A/C work as well and I dread removing the dash but I love cold air in my car. Thanks Ricksautomotive but a shop is my last resort and a few pay checks down the line.

i missed the part about the temp control. you may have a piece of crap jammed in the heater core/ accumulator housing door deal. try cleaning it out like you origionally thought. i just have a 2 by 80 AC. 2 windows down going 80 MPH. thats my AC and my actual AC works! i run it every week to keep it circulating in case i ever sell my cars. oh yeah, and i live on the edge of the mojave desert in california

Yea so I did a quick fix and it worked. I was looking at my 94 GSR shell's empty engine bay and noticed a valve on the lines going into the heater core. I then proceeded to close it on my 4 door. I found the line that opens and closes the valve was stuck,so I just pulled the line off, put the valve in the off position, and boom cold A/C. So I guess when it gets cold again I will just open the valve and have heat again.
